Albino Human
A cinematic masterpiece. My hat is off.

a Tune
Interesting and catchy. The instruments are a let down but the melodic part in the end makes up for that. Let me remix the next song before you release it! NEW

I swore a vow on my dying breath
At first my mutilspeed allergies made it hard for me to like the tune. It grew on me though.

Critical Grid Voltage
Nice instruments but I'm missing the kind of melody you can remember two weeks after listening to it.

Carrier Lost
The distortion effect at 0:19-0:21 won me over.

Autumn Memoir
A cute song. What can I say?

quickndirty
NIce and of course too short.

Illumination
What are those effects at the start supposed to be? Chirping birds?

Mountain Morning
Creepy but not enough dynamics to fit a horror movie!

_hidden (XeO3 Main Theme)
One of those LSD choruses that work so well at demoparties!

Syndrom
-------

Misunderstandings
- very catchy melody/harmonies - still had it in mind after a few hours! and even after waking up the next morning! :-)

alt.nerd.obsessive
- reminds me of the little puppet of a levis (?) commercial, very high-level instruments... !

I swore a vow on my dying breath
- sounds like jeff ? instruments are perfect

Arctic Circles
- very moody tune, even with using "simple" instruments...

everything seems 2 be alright
- I like that alternative usage of instruments, combined with that ever changing, never boring action in the song.

Arctic Circles
- Untypical, well executed, so far away from club stuff, funky crap and oldschool nostalgia. Bravely, it says goodbye to drums and bass, to attempt an unexplored path, and it wins its bet! Thanks for this, whoever you are.

I swore a vow on my dying breath
- ...about stopping to smoke? :) This is classy stuff, no more words to define it, the final is a masterpiece of its own. Vincent, you on the keys?

Critical Grid Voltage
- How much stuff in a single tune! And listen to the sound, trying to stifle jumping in your room: I bet you can't.

Electric Jesus
- The best reverbering arpeggios I heard ever! It could be my prefer one, but the only think I didn't appreciate so much is the weird 4096x speed drum. Fantastic anyway, thumbs up!

Misunderstandings
- Now this tune oozes skill experience and fantasy from any pore! Awesome!

Tuesday Weirdness.
- Very cute melody, built up by someone that should be skilled a lot.

Mountain Morning
- A painting of nighty uncertainties nullified by the rising sun. Love it.

Teh Disco
- Who will save the c64 scene against the invasion of '70ies disco tunes we stand since Reed's "BF"? Anyway, this is a cool one!

Triskelion
- Soundtrack for your adventurous wandering in the wilderness. Smells like tinn... ;)

Delight
- Easy tune, but captures your heart and you don't know why...

Lordnikon
---------

Arctic Circles
- Really a perfect bunch of Bytes...

Carrier Lost
- /me is dancing the data-twist

Autumn Memoir
- Nice composition, nice technique

I swore a vow on my dying breath
- let me guess... its grg who is doing that wonderful stuff ;)

Critical Grid Voltage
- Nice massive and funky Tune ... really a nice composition.

Paisley
- Yeah ... thats what I like!

Electric Jesus
- Reminds me on some old TechnoTracks and some Speccy Demos.

c606
- The Composition is extremly great, but the filtering could have been done better, anyway i like this tune very much :)

Albino Human
- Yeah nicely done

everything seems 2 be alright
- yes even the tune seems to be alright ;)

Monk
----

Teh_Disco
- Impressive 70's disco sound! Humor, great instruments and consistent style. Great stuff!

Arctic_Circles
- Melodious and beautiful, touching and nice bravely drumless song. Different than the zillions of drumsongs people usually make. It takes guts to create rhythm without drums, as the temptation to use drums is always huge. Nice echoing ambiance and good filter usage (for a 8580 anyways..).

Electric_Jesus
- Unmistakable energy-trance-style with atmosphere and heart. Cool and very fitting trance-sounds. A bit repetitive but all in all very nice package as a whole!

misunderstandings
- A solid simple structure and innocense and decent instrus. Melody playing sounds juicy and the structure changes enough to keep from being boring. A tad more energy and this would be a winner in my book, but like this it's still very pleasant experience with no major faults.

quickndirty
- This song reminds me of a certain scene-composingstyle that many have adopted. It's kind of hard to explain and perhaps also hard to obtain. It's both plus and a minus at the same time. Sounds too familiar to stand out, but also clearly shows lots of skill too.

Autumn_Memoir
- Atmospheric and somehow fresh sounding tune. Could perhaps benefit from a bit more imaginative melodies though. Almost feels like the author didn't have truckloads of inspiration for this one. Still, I rather listen to this than take a beating ..

Albino_Human
- Maybe I should have rated this tune higher. After all, I adore those simple but good-sounding bongodrums and how the song changes refreshingly at a couple of points. Also the bongo and bass seem to play a bit different rhythm, yet it all fits together. I also like how different lead instrus are used to add variety.

_hidden
- Honest-sounding playful tune with quite a touching tone. Always like when arpeggios are used skillfully like in this one! Also the subtle sync usage is appreciated. Could perhaps vary the structure a bit more though, and somehow I get the feeling it falls a bit short from what it could be.

Triskelion
- This tune uses drumless rhythms quite skillfully and it seems that it even makes some progressive rock-sounding rhythmic oddities! Also uses double-melodies quite skillfully and doesn't have the usual arpeggio backing up the structure and manages to pull it off convincingly. Still, I couldn't get a lot out of this song musically or energetically speaking. A bit 'cold' feeling, as if this song was 'programmed' instead of 'created'.

Lazy day
- The stucture of this one reminds me of some 90's dance songs. The name is very fitting, because the song seems to progress very lazily and frankly boring me quite a lot along the way. But it still has some atmospheric parts, like when the theme changes a bit in the middle section when the first drumless part starts. Later on the melodies get better and the song seems to gain altitude. But not enough to rise higher than this in my rankings. Doesn't really offer that much to the listener despite almost otherwise flawless execution.

Intensity
---------

I swore a vow on my dying breath
- The sounds and the structure of this SID are brilliant. Furthermore it's very catchy and I love the melody at 1:18 min. Even a real-music-Electronica-Tune can't beat this. Great SID, my personal winner of this Compo. Sascha Du alte Sau, hassu aber jut gemacht!! :D

Arctic Circles
- A fascilating feeling comes over me, always when I listen to this tune, like if I am flying over the mountains. Great piece of art by hmm... Dane?

everything seems 2 be alright
- Very nice drums and bassline, the same goes for the rest of the sounds. Typical Randall tune, and he showed again, that he is a worthy competer in this compo. Thumbs up for this tune!

Critical Grid Voltage
- The Sounds of this tune, especially the drums and bassline are very well made, same goes for the melody-structure. About the melody itself I have too say, that it's definatley too happy for my melancholic soul :) But iIt's definatley the best SID from CreaMD so far :D The first time I have listened to this I really was like GOSH, WOW, SHIT, Those Sounds!! :D

Carrier Lost
- Really wicked 303-Sounds in this one. I like them better than in the paisely-SID to be honest. There should me more of this style on the C64. Good stuff! I am curious who the composer is.

Teh Disco
- Jammer, you son of a............. popular and nice lady! As always we have nice sounds in this once since we are used to it from Jammer. This SID would fir *perfectly* in Fairlight's "Boogie Night"-Demo. It's a very nice SID, but I know that Jammer could do it EVEN better! :D

Misunderstandings
- Zabutom, you are TEH GREAT! The more I listened to this SID, the more I loved it! Wicked SID-tweakings and a heart-warming touching sweet melody! :D Very nice.

Paisley
- Very nice 303-sounds in this. Really good attempt to do a minimal-acid-tune on the C64. Only one thing I dislike is the monotony of this. However, though I like Carrior Lost, which has also 303-sounds in it, more, this one definatley has deserved to be in the top ten.

a Tune
- Very Heinish that is, maybe also from G. Hultink. However, I like this one.

White Light
- Happy Sounds from loveley A-Man. Really good! I like his style.

a_Tune.sid
- to me, this is one of heins best efforts, and my personal #1 in this compo. they should be doing movies with hein as sound director. at least it would be worth a try.
awesome composition. evil guy. heintje, you rock.

I_swore_a_vow_on_my_dying_breath
- someone's obviously learned how to do drums properly. the tune's nicely conducted, the leads are crybrating and give the whole thing an awfully scary mood, i didn't dare to put the lights off yet while this one was running.
what put this one above #3 was the excellent drumwork, only jeff could probably top that with some of his contemporary material.

Critical_Grid_Voltage.sid
- best creamd yet. i hope you cleaned the keyboard when you were done doing this one. #3.

misunderstandings.sid
- i got fooled there. the first seconds made me think of asterion until the tune fully transformed into what i'm used to from zabu since a few years. less playfullness and a lesser wet sounding snare would have probably lifted this one above #4.

Albino_Human.sid
- nice and clean sounds. we're talking a fanta here (and this is probably the first time i guessed it right without having a questionmark carved on my forehead). still, i miss the catchiness.

Arctic_Circles.sid
- this one and mountain morning would have shared a place, because they are kind of alike, taken from the feel and the way they go along, yet arctic circles brought up a different and more familar mood.

Mountain_Morning.sid
- same as for arctic circles, just without the mood.

quickndirty.sid
- nice but weird one. msk leading booker's hand to remind me about fanta pulling a volker meitz. smart move. too bad it's so short.

shortcut.sid
- it started really cool, but turned out a little boring throughout the tune. nonetheless, kingston's probably still sick and i like the sounds.

_hidden.sid
- this is one of the few outstanding tunes, luca has a weird affinity to 51 and loud 11-es. but it works, it keeps me hooked for quite some time.

Raf
---

Critical Grid Voltage
- just love the instruments and positive vibes , including that loud -> louder -> deeper kick , nicely polished tune which magically makes me happier

Albino Human
- very nice buildup, original feeling, great to listen in the background, and.. no drums? ;p

Arctic Circles
- another one without drums , with nice warm synth sound - this is how the sid was meant to sound when released or what? :)

_hidden (XeO3 Main Theme)
- _hidden_comment

Teh Disco
- great sounds , great arrangement , this one probably shows new direction in enhancing sid music

Electric Jesus
- at first I thought... another fast disco umtz umtz with raw pulse bass... but after several second nice background appears... surprisingly or not - I still can listen to it in a loop for very long time

Triskelion
- sth very original among other tunes ... I don't really like this kind of music but I appreciate the style and very clear sounds.. and... no drums ? ;-)

Shortcut
- just a little sensible airwaveshaker for my ears tired of allday urban noise

c606
- I like this 'commodore 606'-or-what-that-c606-do-mean roland TR-606 beat machine simulator. oh , and NTSC scene is still alive ;p

everything seems 2 be alright
- technically nice and so on ... not my style probably :) good sounds .. funky plumky...

- good technically with good sounds, good groove, good melodies, good everything, or great in fact!

Electric Jesus
- this one is technically great, some of the sounds are very good, and most importantly, it sounds very good!

Zuo3
- a technically good tune with nice groove and melodies, and I must say I like it!

Tuesday Weirdness.
- well this ain't bad weirdness at all

Kollision
- a good tune, especially that melody starting on 1.23 is very nice and sweet!

Delight
- this is done in an OK way and is quite delightful

c606
- has some melodies, nice filter effects, heavy bass drum... What else can I say than BOOM BOOM, which has a positive meaning in this case.

@yourface
- when I was first looking at the lengths of the compo tunes, I was like "2 minutes, 3 minutes, 3 minutes, yes that's what they seem to be, 4 minutes, 24 minutes, 3 minutes - oh wait WTF?!?" :D Somebody actually made a tune that's almost 24 minutes long!! There's a million ways to do an annoying 24 minute-long tune but this actually manages to not to do it in one of those million ways. Respect!

White Light
- melodic, technically good, has some good elements; that makes it a nice tune

Teh Disco
- cool disco groove. Interesting sounds.

Albino Human
- Excellent piece of music. I can listen to it all day long. It's good to relax too.

Arctic Circles
- Another masterpiece. Recognised style and sound ;)

a Tune
- Every time I listen this great tune, I find something new. 3 minutes of pleasure. I love it.

Teh Disco
- I would like to hear this one in the club on huge speakers with bass turned on full. Fantastic arrangement.

everything seems 2 be alright
- Listening to this for the first time i thought it was ok. However the more times i listened the more i like it. It's great.

I swore a vow on my dying breath
- Fabulous sound and rhythm. Multispeed mastery to perfection.

quickndirty
- Unforgettable 42 seconds.

Ex Inferis
- Heavy music on C64. Always good to hear different style.

Shortcut

Triskelion
- Rich sound creates a nice atmosphere. Very enjoyable composition.

Nata
----

1. Electric_Jesus.sid
- It sounds like a tune from Psycho. I like the composition but I hate the used snare sound.

2. Critical_Grid_Voltage.sid
- It's obviously by CreaMD. The tune has a really high quality. (as usual)

3. White-Light.sid
- This oldskool tune is by A-MAN. It sounds quite nice.

4. INCD418.sid
- I guess this one is composed by Richard. Nice!

5. lazy_day.sid
- The tune is OK.

6. Tuesday_Weirdness.sid
- Nice melody!

7. kollision.sid
- It's by Maktone. The typical sound... :)

8. Random_Acts_of_Cruelty.sid
- It's one of this songs with the ugly GT1 presets. Cruelty for my ears.

9. Break-beep.sid

------

1. Albino_Human.sid
- Super cool dark atmosphere. Weird name for it considering...

2. Electric_Jesus.sid
- Intro screams hard-trance. Damnit, give me the business next time >_< Rad instruments.

3. Illumination.sid
- Oozes bass. Rad.

4. Teh_Disco.sid
- Wicked bassline. Pro use of tools at hand.

5. Tuesday_Weirdness.sid
- Nice dancing between bass and drum instruments. Amiga sound on a sid chip.

6. paisley.sid
- Could have been a commercial house track.

7. Laserflake.sid
- Dynamic composition. Couldn't decide on an intro?

8. Critical_Grid_Voltage.sid
- Pro use of instruments. Meat of song could be more driving.

9. lazy_day.sid
- "Lemmings Paintball" meets "Return of Shinobi"

10. _hidden.sid
- Almost too catchy... but I'm in a good mood, so it works.

Randall
-------

1) breath.sid
- few years ago, i've been working in a hotel in the mediterranean area and the owner had a habit of telling the waitresses that they are 'too much beautiful'. nice pickup line indeed, so i'd like to say, this tune is too much beautiful, even despite being rather on the uncatchy side. can't describe how deeply i love it, particularly the 1:47 part; suffice to say that it claims the first place here, and also the longest comment by randall 2006 award.

2) I_swore_a_vow_on_my_dying_breath
- absolutely brilliant. i like the structure: climbing up then going down. totally adore the leads; the chords and the instruments as well. some people said it sounds like composed by me, well brothers i truly wish i could write shit like this. second place.

3) a_Tune.sid
- great harmonies, as usual, and a skillful buildup. sid jazz at its peak. third place.

4) Teh_Disco.sid
- irresistibly catchy, danceable, neatly arranged. if it wasn't for a little overused $5 sync effect, it could well compete with the top three in my precious personal ranking.

5) quickndirty.sid
- too short, but the last two bars and the way the melody gets blurred by the finalizing chord (and of course you all dig what i'm saying) deserve a hug from me, hey where are you going?

6) Triskelion.sid
- another phat tinnitus fugue with lots of construction twists, this time with more production applied to the sound. the arrangement is crystal clear: flute, violin and acoustic upright bass - simple & effective. what's more, it doesn't reveal its beauty right away, being the biggest grower among all the entries. how could i not appreciate it?

7) Tuesday_Weirdness.sid
- i find myself once again very fond of this style. opening chord sequence makes me wanna shake that nutsac.

8) Autumn_Memoir.sid
- emotional melodies that catch attention at once, all wrapped up in an elegant three minutes package.

9) misunderstandings.sid
- crazy passages that come in so many forms they could well develop into two or three different songs. check the wild pulse modulation later into as well. definitely needs repeated listenings, but god they pay back.

10) Electric_Jesus.sid
- magnificent opening, and soundwise this is the most impressive tune in the compo. not just impressive but innovative as well, never heard such a production on c64. a slight bit too repetitive for my taste, but you just have to love the tune where the arpeggios - from 1:15 onwards - seem to speak 'why, why oh why...' ('...hast thou forsaken me', hence the title? ;>)

Raveguru

01: teh_disko
- (the first successful attempt in making disco on SID afaik. amazing instruments, drums almost sounds sampled. Disco SID has arrived!)

02: critical grid voltage
- (superb instrument programming, exciting composition and full throttle from the start. but what's up with the hubbardish intermission? :D)

03: arctic circles
- (amazing harmonies and composition. beautiful and expressive galwayese sounds. plus a daring effort. superb!)

04: electrical_jesus
- (don't know what makes this tune work for me. perhaps it's the naive sentimental melody, the simplicity of the baseline, the freaked out snare or just that it all fits together so nicely)

05: laserflake
- (nice and happy energy, very oldskool amigaish demo tune sound. overall high quality)

06: misunderstanding
- (phat bassline and overall fresh and polished sound. it lacks bass though)

07: everything seems 2....
- (ok, the sound is familiar, nothing new. quality instruments and arrangements saves)

08: i swore a vow....
- (good instruments programming and all in all an expressive tune)

09: paisly
- (excellent bassline and just my kind of minimal house track. but the arrangement could be more interesting)

10: c606
- (good energy, instruments could have been better, but serves well)

Richard
-------

Lazy Day
- Sounds 90's old style. Great melody, and that was how SID sounded in those times. :)

Delight
- Yet another DOS/CANE inspired melody. Nice tune. Nata, is it you?

Arctic Circles
- A breath of fresh air. Nice relaxing melody using the basic 3 channel echo effect. Is this by Jeff or GRG?

Electric Jesus
- Could this be by Intensity/Cosine. The style sounds similar.

Illumination
- Neat techno/trance tune, unknown composer. Cool though.

Quick 'n Dirty
- Really funky music. Is this by Fanta?

Shortcut
- Or is this by Fanta? Whoever composed this, this track is neat.

Critical Grid Voltage
- Another mad trance track. Cool use of lead.

C606
- Instruments sound quite basic, but the tune sounds really cool. Neat trance track. ;)

_hidden
- Nice melody and stuff. Could this be by Trident? :)

Cadaver
-------

1. Albino_Human
- This is very Galway-like, emotional and atmospheric. Maybe the Galway-feeling is even too strong but you don't hear much SID music like this today.

2. Critical Grid Voltage
- Rocks hard with well-defined sounds and buildup of the atmosphere.

3. Arctic Circles
- Very sweet filtered lead. Takes a long time to start though. Melodies remind somewhat of PC game Tyrian. Technically isn't that special but has a heroic atmosphere that makes up for it.

4. I swore a vow on my...
- The intro has an interesting ominous atmosphere created by the long power chords in the background. Lead instruments use portamento with much imagination and variety. Later, the ominous feeling returns in
the outro fade out.

5. Electric Jesus
- Nice fast bassline-triggering and usage of filters/arpeggios in the intro buildup. Once the tune starts properly, even more fast triggered arpeggios.

6. White Light
- Intro is actually quite different from rest of tune. A bit
"ordinary" lead sound but it's still quite sweet. The flute that appears later is worth waiting for.

7. Triskelion
- Something quite medieval, minimalistic and even Follin-like.

8. Carrier Lost
- Cool "hard" filtered sound, that gets the adrenaline pumping.

9. Teh Disco
- This is quite porno, in a good way.

10. Everything seems 2 be...
- In the intro, beautiful atmosphere achieved with the filtering. Once the tune starts for real, it's a bit more confused sounding but still cool, and has some nice special FX sounds.

1. I_swore_a_vow_on_my_dying_breath (14.)
- Techincally top stuff except for the the melody, which sounds a bit boring to me compared to the rest of the composition. Still, the most "quality" entry overall.

2. Autumn_Memoir (25.)
- Simple and beautiful. I like the atmosphere of this very much, it reminds me a bit of Blue-eyes by Dos/ADSR which is one of my alltime favourites. Great stuff!

3. Albino Human (35.)
- Nice melodies and chord progressions. The sounds are kinda "heavy" in the beginning, which makes it a bit tiring to listen. Top stuff anyway. Nice "oxygene". :)

4. Arctic_Circles (18.)
- This took me a bit of listening before getting it. Beautiful stuff which keeps evolving nicely. I'm not too sure about the sounds tho. Neat composition anyway.

5. everything_seems_2_be_alright. (21.)
- Technically pretty nicely done. Weird chord progressions and melodies, but they sound quite nice. Quite long tune, but not repetitive. Thumb up!

6. Triskelion (34.)
- I don't know why, but this reminds me a bit of Monkey Island. Very simple soundwise, but the sounds fit this composition nicely. Neat tune!

7. kollision (7.)
- Oldskoolish atmosphere in this one. Excellent melody and chord progressions. Sounds are a bit "muddy", but maybe it works better in this composition. Great!

8. Laserflake (6.)
- This chord progression have been used so freaking many times and it did bother me a bit, but not that much. Nice melody and usage of some sounds.

9. Teh_Disco (10.)
- Neat discostuff. The tune itself works pretty fine, but not too sure about few of the sounds. Still quite a nice groove.

10. Mountain Morning (9.)
- I like the soundscape of this one quite a lot, but not much melody happening in here which drops the position down a few places. Shame, I find potential in this.

-----

1. I_swore_a_vow_on_my_dying_breath
- by far the best tune here. great sounds, good melodies, it's alternating and it rocks. finally, linus boy learned from his groupmembers to release compo fitting stuff in a compo. you are welcome.

2. Shortcut

3. Autumn Memoir

5. White Light

7. a Tune
- except from the meaningless melody this is quite good.

8. quickndirty

- contains 1 extremely awesome sound .. I really envy you!) It's very realistic tune, I like the atmosphere, just drums are a bit too mediocre

breath.sid
- if this tune didn't have all that dirt around the melodies, I would probly have it in the second half of the rank, but this oldschool hubbardish smell and atmosphere combined with some clean sounds is (excuse moi) fucking great!!! Some arranges are sort-of-banal as in Kollision.sid, but overal feeling is very good

misunderstandings.sid
- I would put this one on the same line as Breath and Kollision, but this one doesn't contain so much "lonely-feeling" factors

Triskelion.sid
- ahhh... Asterion, I love you. What would I do if you didn't send a tune into the SidCompo.. this time it has a really precise mixing, seems like you are growing up, but it's a real shame it's so short!!!

lazy_day.sid
- until about 0:40 it's very clystronesque! (or at least Thomas Detert-ish) , then a bit banal melody starts, which is a real pity ;-(. from 1:12 it's returning on the right track again.

Laserflake.sid
- on first hearing, this tune made my facial hair go shiver.. the intro is a bit redundant though. Some other tunes outshined this one, but I must admit that this was the first tune that made me optimistic about this years sid-compo tunes ;-)

White-Light.sid
- Nice arranges, but I've got a feeling that it would make much more impact if it wasn't so hurrying. Otherwise very excellent a-class composing!

1. Shortcut
- Drax, your chords smell so much that i recognise them everywhere, everytime and even if i were deaf :D

2. Kollision
- raw as hell, like in every Maktone's tune but those chords and lead... sweet leads. i hear tdm in this passage (unfortunately the weakest part imho) :P

3. Quck'n'Dirty
- too short, too short, nevertheless, it deserved third place. solid lead, one interesting twist on chords. pity that it ends so quickly. but, hell yeah, it's dirty ;)

4. I swore a vow on my...
- i swear that i'll kill you, Linus, if you are so persistent in copying Randall's harmonies :P great drums and lead so i forgive you :P

5. Breath
- the beginning in truly epic style and suddenly a change. twisted as hell, i buy it anyway ;)

6. Misunderstanding
- nice chords, nice lfos. a bit messy but i enjoy it despite all those peculiarities.

7. Arctic Circles
- hmm, Dane, is it you ?? drum section would sound nice. still, i'm really glad that something dofferent from all those madonna' copies appeared :)

8. Electric Jesus
- jeeez, what a lead! arman, big congrats on your multispeed debut. i've recognised your shit despite other tunes which are quite similar to your style :P this lead really makes my little fella harder :D

9. Mountain Morning
- Marcin, you won't hide yourself even behind originality. your sounds betray you ;)

10. Triskelion
- Asterion's follinesque celtic standard. i like especially those loops as if tune got stuck :D really oldskool instruments as usual ;)
