Release id #18308 : GoatTracker V2.0

FYI, the archive currently linked in the release page is v2.61, not v2.0.

On another note, does anyone have v2.05 for Windows, by any chance?

Why would you need 2.05, just to ask? ;) There's 2.73 out :)

I mainly develop on AmigaOS 4.1, and v2.05 is the only version available for that platform. I've been composing some music on it and some more remains to be done. But I'm on holiday now, and for next 3 weeks I won't have access to the AmigaOS machine. These 3 weeks are a golden chance to finish all the tunes, and it would be a pity if they went to waste...

Ah, so. You've asked about 2.05 for Windows and that mislead me ;)

Does anyone know how to load 1.x songs into 2.x without them sounding like crap? I'm sure there's a simple way, but it evades me.

If the songs have been done in a late version of GT1 where the feature set and pattern commands had stabilized, the conversion should work fairly well.

For earlier versions you're likely out of luck: GT1 songs did not have version information so it's not really possible to improve the conversion load routine to support the earlier song data, unless you start doing heuristics like "Hey! 02 looks like a stupid pulsewidth, maybe it should be 20 instead"

Fair enough. I was hoping there was a tool for the early stuff. I'll just have to do some rewrites, I suppose ;)

Another example of how CSDb entries should be NEVER updated with newer versions.
I added goattracker_205_amiga.lha to the entry, and renamed the windows zip to _261 as that's not anymore the 2.0 build made in 2005 but it's from 2007. I am still searching the actual 2.0 because the sids examples contained in 2.61 is clearly different making the whole CSDb entry a mess.
Now if someone has a real 2.0 zip and would be so nice to upload it there, that would be great.

If the entry used to have a link to goattrk2.zip at Covertbitops, that would just update with each successive version.

I know I have lost the early versions to bit heaven. Didn't have much discipline in the beginning of its development. :(
