If you get Ubuntu Restricted Extras you can play .sid's in Movie Player by double clicking them. Unfortunately it doesn't display meta info.

uw, that would use libsidplay from ca 1942 though =P (and it works in a lot of mediaplayer thingies if you have libsidplay and the respective plugins, eg amarok or xmms)

I use jsidplay2 on Linux. Has a nice gui - but needs a lot of cpu-power.

I am surprised but I have noticed it works under Audacious but I must confess I can not rememeber if I installed a plugin for playing sids. Could it be possible it can play automatically without installing plugin?

About vsid. Unfortunately there is no possibility to run RANDR so I am not able to work with Vice at all. My notebook is VIA based and there are big issues with installing VIAChrome9 HC driver with RANDR enabled. So vsid won't work... :(

Greopaz: yes you are right I have installed libsidplay although I dont know if it came with audacious or I installed it when I was trying to solve this problem.

gpz: Looks like an updated gstreamer-plugin 'siddec' using sidplay2 would be needed?

Orcan: it depends on your distro... i think the "big" ones have it installed always (if you install something like xmms or audacious)
Ninja: something that uses the resid code from vice would be nice indeed ;) libsidplay2 is like 10 years old or something =P

Hmm, looks to me that a super-duper sidplayer should in deed be based on VICE; yet the first choice for a gstreamer plugin would be libsidplayfp these days.

It might not be for you, but for some reason i quite like the good old sidplay2w.exe for Windows. I've been using it for many years under Linux as well using Wine. Works for me.
