ram types & ram refresh
hi all!
1-2 year ago I managed to pull out the AR of my running 128, wich resulted in several burned out ram modules. They got replaced but the new rams started crash on me with demos using hardware scroll, and other nifty vic tricks..
(stretchers, fpp, sometimes even fli routines)
Now the rams finally got replaced, but my VDC still behaves unstable. I use the VDC ram as a swap space, and to reach the fastest swap speed possible I set the VDC ram refresh to the least frequent possible. But after 1-2 hours of usage the VDC ram got trashed here or there...
The question is: which ram types survive the most, rare memory refreshes ? As Id like to change them again.. |

The important thing is how often they need to be refreshed as you guessed as some $D011 effects disrupt the refresh cycle done by the VIC. The longer the memory can remain stable without refreshing the better for them effects. Did you also replace the VDC RAM? If so I'd say it's purely a case of refreshing unless the memory is too slow. |

sure. its the case if refreshing, Im 100% certain about that. VDC rams also got replaced. I need a ram type wich can handle the least frequent VDC ram refresh... Yesterday I tested it again, and the data survived about 1 hour in the VDC ram... So Im not quite sure about what the problem is.. Maybe its the VDC itself, as quite some soldering were done by Bigfoot (all rams are now socketed), and maybe something happened to the VDC...
anyway the question remains: which ram type can survive rare mem refresh the the best ?
(it seems there's not much ppl out there with knowledge on this.. 55 views on the topic and only 1 reply so far :( ) |
