Group id #2032 : Phoenix

In 1990 there was a Phoenix in Germany around the people of Twice Effect. Is this group a rebirth of the 1988 UK Phoenix or do they not have anything in common at all?

What? What are they, racist or something? How absurd, having only people of a certain nationality in your group. Why, if Focus would have the same rule people like Metal & Cycleburner would never have become members!

Wait a minute ..

Well Adam,

you really force my memory to reactivate almost dead memories, which remained untouched for 15 years now. But anyway, if i remember correctly, the group you are talking about was formed in late 1989 (maybe october or november), not 1990, by the former german Rough Trade Inc. Division, namely Narc (l8er Westbam) and Anthrax. Of course, "Phoenix" (1989) must have had more members than just those two guys, but this information is not known to me at all.

Just a second...

"Strike", good to know my memory is in an excellent shape and working properly. To back up what i wrote upthere, i was taking a look into some early Issues of "PIRATES" and found what i was searching for in Issue #8. There you can read a column about the german scene, reviewed by Anthrax/Phoenix, including some well-considered effectivly advertisment for the new formed group Phoenix. In "Pirates Issue #9" they (Narc or Anthrax) replied on complaints about "Phoenix" being arranged (by Narc & Anthrax) within the list of the 1989-german-top-groups and therefore notified the readers that "Phoenix" had 5 releases in their first week and 2 out of these 5 should have even been 1st-releases.

However, the group didn't last very long, a few days/weeks maybe. Narc and Anthrax joined Legend and the rest is history i guess...

Neverthless i cannot answer the question if the 1989-Phoenix had anyhthing in common with the group from 1988.

Interesting story - now if we just could find their releases.

Here's some more Info on that "german" PHOENIX.

their memberlist ist growing:

According some old Magic News Issue (Jan' 1990), Tanner (at that time Ex-Success), Jim / Defence and TFD / Defence were part of the group aswell. Thus makes the memberlist look like this: Narc, Anthrax, Tanner, Jim and TFD.

Maybe someone wants to to create that group for the CSDb, i am far too lazy right now.

Added all the info to the German Phoenix , only 17 years later. :)
I actually came to it because I was wondering whether Follins Music Box is really contributed correctly to the British Phoenix. It says "Phoenix presents..." in the scroller, but it has been released 4 years after their last one, and I don't see any connection of Jon Wells to the group - or is he maye one of the old members under an hitherto unlinked handle?

Already solved - the collection has nothing to do with this group, see production notes. Thanks to Rickard Bayliss for the info!
