Workstages
Hi all,
I was just wondering if it would be appreciated if I included workstages with my (future) releases.
Seeing some of Leon -whose methods are completely different to mine- has been very interesting. 8)
My idea is to make an additional downloadlink called
"WORKSTAGES.zip" and will include every saved step. |

Looking at other peoples work stages is the closest thing we've got to looking over someone's shoulder while they paint - a great way to lean new tricks/tips.
It's always interesting to see how different people approach things... and as I said, always an opportunity to learn something.
I intend to include work stages with my next pic! (Nobody get your expectations up though!) |

Yeah Bizzmo, that´s how I see it aswell.
Looking forward to your picture and definately the workstages.
Great to see you don´t mind!
The way things are created are far more interesting than the actual result (in a graphical context).
I think I won´t wait for replies on this topic and have my mind made up already. ;) |

I think a few of my pics already have workstages, usually where the rules of a party require it. It's usually only a selection, though if people are interested maybe I'll start uploading the lot! They perhaps work better on a webpage where you can see how the picture builds up all in one go. |

Hi Deev,
downloaded quite some party-releases but never seen any workstages..
I guess it is more for assuring the organisers. ;)
But be assured that I like to see them.
You made quite a good point about it best being shown on a website.
Maybe it is a good idea to have some sort of viewer for this.
Problem is that it would require quite some smart coding.
Maybe when demand is high enough,I´d give it a try.. |

Leon does already have such a webpage, with some of his other pics's worksteps:

Its good seeing those work stages, many of the pictures tend to start out in one area of the screen and then progress to the rest of the screen without any back tracking to re do old areas. Where as with my pictures i tend to start out in one area of the screen, jump to another screeb area, go back and re-do areas.
I have an un released picture that uses the SHE2 format (hires with 1 layer of hires sprites, non interlaced. The image is as wide as 8 sprites (192 pixels)) the picutre is called 'Return of the Living Dead'. I had this idea of making a demo part where the picture builds up showing all my workstages (i think there are about 20 or 30 maybe 40, i can't remember). The demo part was coded over 6 years ago now and it worked out really well. As the image builds up, you can see picture areas appearing and then being changed (for the better) 5 stages down etc.
The demo part should appear in ZEROs & ONEs/Warriors of Wasteland or W.O.W |

Ok guys,thanx for the replies.
I have added all the workstages as a seperate file.
Except for Attitude #9,but that should be coming when Cactus gives me access to the entry.
@Wile: I also tend to start at one place and continue from there.
But I often return to specific parts to alter them aswell. ;)
Ok,I hope more graphicians will give us a peek at how they do things.
But more important..
Keep on painting! 8D |

I never realised there was any interest in workstages. Historically I'd only ever kept a couple of versions of any pic I was working on just as a backup...
Now of course I realise that workstages are often(always) a requirement when it comes to entering competitions... so I'm keeping lots of workstages of the pic I'm currently doing.
Also, seeing other peoples stages is definately of interest.
I do think that releasing them on a web-based gallery is probably better than on a .d64... especially for those of us who's only opportunity to pixel in on a pc... |
