Custom Char paint program?

I wonder: Is there any program that allows you to load (or even edit) your own custom charset (and screen) and then colorize it? It should support hires, Multicolor (yes, also the hires in multicolor!) and ECM!
Back in the day i used Paintmagic because you had *some* control over what color maps to which bitpattern and you could easily colorize chars. But paintmagic neither allows working with charsets and obviously does not support hires!

I think some game graphics tools might do the job, but I don't really know what's easy to use!...

Any suggestions?

Try this one.

Graphic Editor (J.Fox)

Never used anything else since 1987.
Map editor is also very easy to use. As far as I know every char can be colorized seperately ($d800 color ram that is ofcourse)
Also contains one the very best sprite editors.
I am not a good coder and an even worse graphician but I find this one very good.

(edited the post. Forgot to include the link. Must be an ageing problem :))

argh, this is driving me insane!
the lepsi thing simply won't load. gives me a b0rked load-selection menu in VICE and nothing at all on the real machine and 1541u!

J.fox on the other hand WILL load. But the char is b0rked and the screen, too! WTF?

Heck! That's weird...
(I won't for humanities sake not give you the: "never had any problems myself!" remark.
Is probably a speeddos or a depacking problem.
I do have a .tap image of the original somewhere. If I have some info on the setup you used when it failed to work properly, I can see what I can do.
(if I have to recrack the bloody thing and send a 5 1/4 floppy to germany, then so be it!)

Does anybody have a good suggestion for this? I'm searching for the same features, more specific an ECM level/screen editor, preferably with a seperate colour map.

The char/screen editor I wrote in BlitzBasic(!) a while back does mono/multi/ECM, and you can remap the colours without the char changing. (choose colour, right click on screen to paint. I guess that's what you're looking for?) It's a bit clunky because I was the only one using it, but send a us DM Hein if you want a copy.
