Please state SID Model in your releases!
As the SID models 6581 and 8580 sound totally different I think it really should be mandatory to state the SID model in every release (in "production notes" or so), if possible also the chip version (production year, revision, etc...) to make the music sound exactly the way the composer intended it to sound while producing it. Pleeaaaase! Thanx!

On emu, some can't even set filters to match 6581/8580 SID, so what are you talking about? |

Yeah, also ... who do these self-proclaimed musicians using newsk00l techniques think they are anyway?
Heavy filter switching, weird waveforms the 6581 can´t reproduce anyway and relying on ADSR bugs.

Just don´t use the filter and combined waveforms at all I´d say!1 |

My 2 cents: Quite a few tunes composed on either model work on both 6581 and 8580. In Bizarro world, those EXTREME 8580 musicians who do huppy fluppy newskewl wonder things - which sometimes really sound grrreat but do not work at all on 6581 - at least release some additional 6581 version which does not sound like shit.
Apart from that, 6581/8580 should do as release info. I don't see why we should force musicians to tell REV or other details in production notes, since it is a well known fact that even 2 sids of the same rev and same production week may sound different. |

Well, don't get me wrong guys. I'm no "listen my tunes only on 6581R6456DS732-chip" fascist. I just want to know, IF POSSIBLE, on what chip the tune was composed when you release something. the more info, the better. At least old or new SID. You have enough possibilities to write this info anywhere. No need to discuss missing features (that in fact aren't missing) on CSDb here!
There are some people who have good ears, 5 different C64 SID models, a great amplifier and don't use crap speakers from ALDI in order to reproduce the tune like it was intended to sound. If I REALLY LIKE a tune, I want to listen to it the right way, when I have the possibilities. Roger that??

Just assume 8580 for anything new that's not done by Jeff or Rambones or uses samples and you're good to go. |

I cannot be arsed to :)
A lot of us "extreme" 8580 musicians´ fundamental sounddesign relies on rapid filter switching that sounds ugly on a 6581. So it´s not like setting a couple of different cufoff values to get a listenable 6581 version of a tune. There is much more to it than that :) |

If interpreted wrong by someone else, doesn't bother me, I got it, eventhough I moved on.
Personally I prefer 6581 SID, it's the only chip I know without REAL SID or emulation, can you say the same?. Again: shame on you! |
