well, one of the key things in this demo was to abruptly change between parts. because making all those transitions sucks arse. as does making all the artsyfartsy bullshit =) also repeating the same style in every demo is boring as fuck - expect something completely different again next time :)

The physics may be partly fake but they still look so real, that's what matters. ;) It is a demo after all and demos are for watching.
I am still of the opinion that this one is a rough diamond that needs a bit of fine-cutting, especially concerning the transferring from one part to the next. That goes way too abrupt and bluntly. Groepaz told us on Lemon that he won't touch it again which I regret. Still great stuff though.

the tune from moog is used in good tradition without permission, so i have no idea (but i doubt it). as for cupid... we will see. maybe :)

First time I actually identify with the crowd as I am pleased :)
Really neat demo, lovely ideas, physics and fluids - cool! Is this old stuff or are Cupid and Moog back on the active side??
Seriously well done, Groepaz!

Hitmen for the world! Artphosis was/is just one hell of a demo! Can't believe what we saw at the X2012 democompo can ever be beat (well that's just the last demo I remember from the compo... no chance for voting as I was almost sleeping)..

When watching for the first time, I was really impressed and a little puzzled, the digivoice spoke out exactly my thoughts which made me lol a lot. Besides, I really dig the soundtrack in the rhythm of everything, too. Great the X release was not just a singular call from the grave but Hitmen really seems to be awoken for good and active again on C64.

"Conclusion: this demo is Reanim8ted 2013."
not more than any other demo released recently. do you seriously think everything in eg cl13 is realtime? and all the "physics" popping up recently is completely non fake?

For the falling blocks part I was watching lots of linear reads through memory progressing each frame that slowed down when blocks were not moving. So obviously it's an animation with some compression. ICU64 is an excellent tool.

Re: Groepaz - "just try it - 50hz with 8 blocks that is :)"

"Regarding non-realtime physics, please also check Hollowman's World War III"
yep, balls/particles is very doable, boxes not so much :)

@groepaz: I knew it, but it looked suspiciously like a realtime attempt. Anyway, cool stuff...

oswald: the "physics" obviously (really, shame on everyone) isnt realtime.

just try it - 50hz with 8 blocks that is :)

Interesting use of anal probe + excellent physics! What's not to like? :)

The particle stuff was great, waiting for more effects based on it.

Martin Piper: User interaction is one way to show that it is not pre-calculated. Another way is to allow the effect to run indefinitely without looping (as long as the shift-lock key is pressed, or until a certain key is pressed, for instance.)

Of course the way to show the physics and liquid is real time and not pre-calced is to have some user input going on. Something like moving the blocks around with the joystick and fire changing which one can be moved. Or the joystick moving the water pipe around with variable water flow rate.

However Verlet integration is fast and easily optimised for integer or fixed point maths.

I think this probably more a coder pleaser than crowd pleaser, but as a coder, I'm very pleased =) Very nice that Groepaz brings some effects to C64 which hadn't been done yet!

oswald: check note for details :)

i'll also prepare some more detailed docs on the marching squares stuff used in the last part, that type of rendering has potential for more, imho :)
User Comment
Submitted by Oswald on 31 March 2013
now this pleases me more than artphosis, real time of many parts is questionable, still nice tho. been thinking myself on realizing 2d marching squares, nice job there.

Some very original parts there. You probably didn't have much time after X'2012 but i appreciate permanence as well as production scale. physics fx are really impressive like others said.

Btw, stopimg fpp is exactly my cup of tea. ;)

Lots of incredible physics code here. The constant D020 blinking didn't do it for me, and the overall design could have been more polished, but all in all another solid demo from Hitmen!

Yeah physics part were awesome. Subtle, but very cool. It is really stupid to give this only 9/10 but I had to judge demo as a whole. For the physics part straight 11/10! Outreached my expectations from c64 demo.
