@Shine: you can shoot or kill enemies with the apples. There are 3 different "types" of games (maps 1&4, 2&5, 3&6). Implemented in this version are the following objectives.
1) kill all enemies or collect all cherries
2) kill all enemies with shoot or apple
3) kill all enemies with pushing the cherry/apple chests towards them

Once you hit an enemy with a shot you won't be able to shoot again for a short while. You'll hear a sound effect when you're able to shoot again. Unfortunately it sounds very similar to the "collect cherry" effect & it can happen that it's skipped by the SFX player. I didn't have the time to work much on the SFXs. I just quickly hacked them into the text editor.

@Richard: thank you. As I wrote in the Goofs section I didn't finish my intro sequence with credits in time. I didn't want to 'destroy' the original title screen because I found it quite funny that between "Tutti Frutti" and the explanation marks was exactly the space for adding "64", - as if it always belonged there :-)

Hey Spider ;) I really love this cute game!!! The first level was as easy as i hoped, BUT the 2nd level i took up all fruits but nothing happened. Should i kill all enemies with the apples too to finish?? Anyway i think that is my fault! 9/10 :)

Love this game and the music. SpiderJ should have credited himself in the C64 conversion of the original game

@Dr.j: thx, I'll keep you in mind for game testing. Shaun Southern is the creator of the original, not *my* name ;-)

very good job spider (why i've noticed you used maybe at the first time your real name and not your handle..hehe caught you) i've also noticed slight bugs and glitches also there are times when the rock fall faster than others time (haven't checked why it occur in some particular places) if you want i can do a testing for your game (im a software tester in my profession) all in all its very impressive (!) for 16kb game. way to go mate!

@Sixteen Plus: I'm aware of the bugs and graphics glitches.
As I wrote: there will be an extended version of this and I'll take care of all that.

Anyway: I completed many runs of the game without that shoot-bug (which will destroy the memory) occuring.
I was informed by The USER that it was still in there about an hour before deadline, but could only reproduce it once.
So I hoped it would work at least most of the time.
And btw.: there is a shot-ready FX in there.
Unfortunately sometimes it's skipped by the SFX player and I'll have to work on the frequencies again that one can hear it better.

Unfortunately I really missed that gamedesign element with the "apples on ground".
If I knew that I wouldn't have released it.
I didn't aim on having it completely bug-free, but at least wanted to have all game elements in it.
I was about 2/3rd commenting and trying to run the original code on C64 (after ~1 week)
when I gave up and started doing everything again from scratch only using the most important routines of the original.

In fact this project was planned many years ago and I never got around to seriously start it.
I (ab-)used this competition to kick myself in the a** to finally bring it to life.

Within two weeks I made all of the music+sfx, commented and re-wrote around 6000 lines of assembly code.
I think I've created a good base to make a proper version.
Releasing this is also part of putting myself under pressure to (hopefully) get it right now.

It's also kind of a strategy to get some public game testers ;-)

So thx for your hints. That surely helped!

You've also omitted the a part objective on the 2nd Mr. Do waves (such as level 2, 5, 8, 11 etc, or in other words those purple screens on the C16 version) to complete the level by dumping all the apples to the bottom of the screen, which you will see on level 5 on the below video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG2SjolCcSM

On the 2nd Mr. Do waves it can be completed by either:

Apples on floor + all cherries
Apples on floor + kill all nasties
All cherries + Kill all nasties

Instead, it is only: All cherries + Kill all nasties.

P.S. A nice sound effect for the bullets and bullet regeneration (which lets you know when you can fire again) would be good too.

I hope you can fix these quickly before the competition ends, as this is easily my favourite entry so far.

This is a classic on the Commodore 16, and way about time it was ported to the C64. There are not enough C16 ports :)

It's a classic mix of Mr. Do meets Pengo. I love the rendition of the game tune. The whole game plays fluently.

Unfortunately there's very serious nasty bugs. Every now and again the game totally crashes. Sometimes a bullet goes haywire even occasionally flying off the screen just before it crashes, and the whole game will just sometimes freeze for no reason. I have as yet not finished a game without it crashing. This needs seriously fixing :(
