i'd rather measure on the drive, like done in this program: https://sourceforge.net/p/vice-emu/code/HEAD/tree/testprogs/dri..

regarding actual drive speed.... the margin is surprisingly large. even when typically its quite close to 300 (+/- 0.5), loaders should be able to deal with much larger deviation, at least +/- 3, better 5, RPM

lft send me 985,280 for one of his drives, between 985,370 and 985,440 for another (only a drift of one in 14,000 - not too bad)

Note that the clock speed comparison is to the nearest 7 cycles, and the jitter in the rotation time is more like 30 cycles, so take the least significant digits with a pinch of salt.
