Groepaz: your version of Zoo Mania is not a "cracked" game, as an example. So another description would be more suitable ("bugged" comes to mind but that is another topic). Regarding "Rules". I am talking about the scene rules, you know, the rules that the overwhelming majority of cracks tried to follow these past decades - cracks that are now available as entries on this C-64 "scene" DB. Never mind, it is like speaking to a brick wall.

Achim: second that.

"For game previews most rules don't count."
not when it comes to csdb really. all that saves this release from deletion is tdd. and no, we'll not invent an extra "not quite a crack but someone felt like releasing it anyway" category.

For game previews most rules don't count. Translation is not required, trainers are not required, not even packing is required. Of course all of those are great extras. This is just a preview of a cool upcoming game. Would be nice on CSDb if there was some extra terminology such as "Crack Scene Release" (for non-protected releases etc).

actually the rules clearly say "linking your intro infront of some freeware game aint cut it. We atleast expect decent training and packing."
however since it is available at tdd, the exception applies and it doesnt matter.

It all depends how you interpret the rules. They don't mention (8.3.1.2) "intro" as a valid enhancement, just crack, ntsc fix, trainer (and etc), things done TO the game. They also don't say it's not a valid addition. Whether it enhances it or not is subjective.

The rules are also quite vague (8.3.2) on games that are coded to be released to the scene (as most are these days). It sounds like those should qualify as scene releases themselves and be credited to whoever made them. Whether they're valid as releases by someone else because they "found" it somewhere and uploaded it here before the coder is again arguable and relies on the interpretation of the other rule. If it's got a trainer or ntsc fix etc then it's clearly fair game as "crack".

At least most people have stopped crediting for crack these days :P In which case it's just a question of which category it goes in. Maybe a new category would clear it up (although probably not).

Adding an intro only? That's pathetic. Here are a few suggestions for an easy +3 crack:
1) Want to see the title picture again? y/n
2) Change border colour to purple? y/n
3) Reset the computer? y/n

Intro etc? + released by another one than the developer/company? Bah. You know this don't you?

"Changed in any way"... Well, that's my question: What has changed? Does adding an intro mean something has changed?

I meant game previews changed in any way and released by another one than the developer.

The main reason is that there is no "C64 preview" option, but any change from the original is considered a "crack", even if that is not the main meaning of the word (removing copy protection etc.).

What exactly makes this a "crack"?
