The first minute is too soft imho! But that may be a part of the message.
I really like it from minute 2 on until the end, when it really gets my full ack! (When "Cause of death" melody starts")
And all in all it's too short.
But hold on your pirates pipes: 9/10 from me.
(not hoping to get a Dithmarscher next X :D)

For a moment there I thought the music was made by Reyn Ouwehand as the SID 'music instruments' sound very similar to his. Devilock did an awesome job and mentioning Reyn I see as giving a great compliment to devilock since Reyn is one of the two Dutch legends.
The demo may not be overly spectacular but it still is a solid release that delivers. It's a bit grim and dark at times but with such a title you can expect that. :)

I am not generally a fan of twisters, but I think the one in this demo is quite fresh!

Nicely paced demo with a great soundtrack, some nice design ideas and a fantastic surface plotter. Also the intro fits nicely, Mr. Ryk!

Nice demo.. Seeing many members who also worked on coma light 13 though.. So whats the story behind this? :) keep em coming

You are so wrong Oswald. When you watch the plotball frame by frame, you wont see any dot missing or disappearing. And If you take a closer look into the code, you will see ORA opcodes, but only very few of them (26 per frame). Its all about sorting the data into the right order to avoid uneeded operations. ;o)
And this is excatly moving with the same speed and angle step as the plotballs by Beyond Force and Booze Design. I think only Gremlin and HCL know why. It´s just an optical illusion that it moves faster, due to the uniform distribution of the plots.

plotball does not ora, I'd say thats why it moves fast, and also why it could be a record :)

@BHF: as for my parts, that is not true, as i had them already there as protoypes before i even joined Oxyron (and thus knew about the CL13 project). You should know that, as i showed you some of my more recent prototypes at Revision :-)
The only thing i added to the twister was the shadow, to tease Axis who just redid all the shadow stuff on his coma light twister as he was not satisfied by his first version :-)

I like the intro and the "slotmachine" part with the selector, kudos for sound ! Music is very good and there are some pretty cool graphics here and there.
Transistions works well, but some of the parts looks like "leftover parts" compared to the Oxyron demo ;) Plotpart is the best !

We have seen better demos from Arsenic before but i still liked the show. it's dynamic and fun to watch. there are some very good looking parts but also some poor parts exist which keep the demo from being memorable in long term. But i'm really happy about Arsenic for being active and productive in our scene.

I like this demo... it is a demo with a lot of seen routines but holds a great sound and demo mood! logo in plot ball is super.

Best fire effect I have ever seen. Also twister and plotter is looking very good.

For me, the moment of the demo is the double plasma effect which starting with wonderful music. Maybe the effect is not too hard to coding, but the screen is really dynamic with the music.
Soundtrack is amazing. Especially the second music: Crazy amazingly wonderful :) Gratz...

@CRRN: I didn't mean this is a fake-release just because it contains only 3 countable effects, and not being an Oxyron-release. I think i have understood the ethics behind Arsenic's demos by now, so i try to judge them from what i see and what i hear. This time i was more impressed with some demos placed lower in that compo, that's all.

Perhaps it also has to do with the theme(s). Arsenic demos seem to more or less always include elements of fear, creatures and gore etc. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea.

@CreaMD:
"I would rather see the effects used as the instruments in causes of death than being separated from the topic"

Well. just imagine it is somesones neck being twisted that hard, or it is the water someone is drowing in or fire someone is burning in :-) But i guess that is, where the 6 weeks of fiddling together get visible, yes :-)

I actually liked this demo a lot. It has a nice flow and some great effects/graphics. But the highlight for me was the soundtrack. especially the part that plays behind the end scroller. great effort and sincere congrats

Heyyyy, thanx for greetings! ;-) Anyway, I don't have good news for your. The demo looks more like collections of effects (some interesting, some less interesting) and idea was mainly conveyed through pics. I was more impressed by simple fast changing text to the music (in the beginning), after the part with wise lady saying things to us while some chunky math effects were effected in the corner, than by some effects that followed. Big twister was probably the cutest effect of them all.. and hell... it fitted in this demo when you consider it as a coder's skills presentation ;-). This or that, I would rather see the effects used as the instruments in causes of death than being separated from the topic of the demo. 8 points from me.

Very nice, and impressive that you did most of it in 6 weeks!

Well, a nice demo, but i second Burglar.. I liked some lower ranked demos from the compo better.. Generally there are just 3 impressing effects in here (you know i'm only able to see it that way..): Fire, Twister and PlottBall. Too little to get #4 in the compo.

But on the other hand, those 3 effects were really nice :). The fire was beautiful, perhaps not too hard to do, don't know actually, doesn't matter. Twister also beautiful and tricky. PlottBall :P.. I'll be back ;) (or not).

nice one! altho I liked a couple lower placed demos more.

got good gfx and music, and some code is better than others.

I would have liked to see the plotball-wr run with a slower movement. it's 50 fps (right?), but it moves so fast, it looses a bit of detail.

Guys.. thanks for a great demo.. 8/10 from me!

Minor setback for me is that the storyline does not really flow as cute (or evil if you will) as it could do.. I guess mainly graphics wise, as it reminds me of "too many cooks spoil the broth"

That said.. an awesome amount of people working on this demo which in itself is an achievement too!

Last but certainly not least.. there where the Oxy demo dropped points for my taste, Arscenic delivered:

I take my hat of in very high respect.. what an AWESOME audio package from Devilock!!!

Thanx for your comments so far! You make me a very happy dEViLOCk! ^_^ You can download the tunes sampled directly from the machine I composed on (C64-II, 8580 SID) at http://devilock64.bandcamp.com/ in full quality. The tunes are called "Cause Of Death" and "Resurrection".

It's a good enough demo, though it's surprising it ended so high and above biba3 and protogeo. 2-3 parts/effects are interesting but the best not. However it has good graphics/design.

was really nice to see it during the compo, nice parts, for sure no "leftovers". Devilock did an awesome job which pushes the demo up some levels. some of the best trackmo-tunes I have ever heard. great stuff by all of you.

Thx 4 all the nice comments, indeed, Devilock did the hardest job and the music is what really keeps everything together imho.

@Xiny: Use a "new"/8580 SID for recording it, that's what Devilock composed it on. Doesn't sound bad on 6581, though, so mixed 6581/8580 Stereo environment might also be worth recording.

Totally blew my mind away. I never knew it was possible to force the SID to make such a sounds :)
Just some tech. aspects. What exact SID model and revision is expected to get most of this? (since I am planing to record them).

'Cause of Death' is a great demo. I really did say WoOOoW when I did watch it in the Live stream from SceneSat. Really great graphic, good effects and music.

Good work guys! Big gratulations for a great place #4 in the X12 demo compo!

thanks alot carrion :) btw - this really is no leftovers from oxyron. the plotball was coded by axis especially for the arsenic-demo. the two parts by bitbreaker are a little older i think (from a time before he joined oxyron)... and also the big rest of the non-oxyron members worked really hard to make it a unique production (like sphinx, devilock, devia, kronos, theryk, celtic and everyone who was involved - just to add some names)

Some very lovely parts, and a BIG twister.

Maybe it's my bad, please verify: pressing space in the last part doesn't halt the scrolling.
