Quite nice! I like the technical aspect on this and yes the routine is fast. The music felt like a random jammer generator, sorry did not like it this time. As it goes for the content used, always nice with some skimmed milk ;) Perhaps you should try some 3D stuff next time. I am sure there are some graphicans out there who would supply you with hotstuff :)

@oswald, certainly other methods would give better quality, i totally agree, but at 4x4 you are looking at 4000 pixels. even if the data was packed to 400 bytes for less changes, with the more intensive decode and 4x4 fli together with the data rate of 5k per frame and running at 12fps it would be an issue. One can ofcourse process the data to force less changes per screen update which would reduce quality but overall be "decent" enough and higher quality than this tile based implementation

algo, I think you've fallen too far on the size gaining side of the tradeoff here. maybe it would be 400 bytes or more, but I bet it would still fit a d64 and could keep up this framerate. & the quality would be much-much better.

@Oswald. Good luck achieving the 200 bytes per frame then :-) unless there are heavy static area's in the screen. Actually the quality increase would have been higher if there were less contrasting area's in the video. (e.g the black background and transitions into the body make it a nightmare for the encoder to attempt higher quality overall)

I'm not convinced, the blockyness got so high, that it makes me think that a 4x4x16 with a good lzw+delta pack / depack would have better results.
