Telengard Remastered v1.0

New Features

- Character Name:
- "sv" still used to indicate saveable character but not visible to player
- ".plr" extenstion removed
- More characters supported
- Formerly only A-Z and 0-9 were supported
- Currently A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and space are supported
- Name length changed
- Formerly 30 characters (max) in file 16 characters (max) in filename
4 characters used for extension
2 character used for save prefix
first 7 characters displayed on screen
(includes save prefix for display)

- Character Load Menu
- Reads first 20 characters from disk and lists them on screen
- Use Up/Down cursor keys to select character
- Commands:
'RET' - load a character
'D' - delete a character
'B' - go back to main menu
- Enhanced Graphics
- The player graphic uses three sprites or 1 sprite and character graphics depending on the situation
- Doors are now gray to better differentiate them from wall
- There are 3 to 4 sprites per monster instead of the original 1
- Room features, treasure, and the inn now use multiple sprites
- The Inn and Altar use character graphics in addition to sprites
- 64 custom character graphics are now defined instead of the original 3
- Spell effects formerly using special characters now use sprites instead

- Enhanced UI
- Character Sheet uses varying colors to make it more readable
- Highlighted letters and words are now done in a different color
- Run/Stop pauses the game any time a key press is expected
- Clear keyboard buffer before reading key presses to avoid accidental actions
- Support for lower case characters
- Spell effect status line updates the same turn a spell is cast and on every turn even if you stay in the same spot
- Light spell takes effect immediately without need for re-plot
- Lower case characters are now supported

- Improved Performance
- Re-plot is done entirely in machine language
- Sprite handler is entirely in machine language
- Light spell renderer is entirely in machine language

- Improved Memory Usage
- Sprites are all contained in Vic-II Bank 3 instead of slotting in monster sprites from Bank 1
- BASIC code has been moderately crunched
- Most frequently referenced subroutines moved to lowest number lines
- lines renumbered starting at 1 and incremented by 1
- unused/non-functional expressions and lines removed
- Memory locations 679 - 766 are used for machine language routine workspace

- Gameplay
- More Dungeon Levels
- Former limit: 50
- Current limit: 250
- Made item bonuses more agressive to make lower levels more playable
- Moved random seed generator to after first keypress to give a more random feel between loads
- Action delay reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1.0 seconds to speed up gameplay a little
- Location Tracking
- Tracking last 100 locations visited
- No non-monster treasure is found if current coordinates are on that list
