The author sounds like a real lamer with his GPL opinions.

so after over a year of knowingly violating the GPL they are still collecting donations and keep using reSID. escalating now...

so after over a month: still offering the download with the GPLd code in it on the website and collecting donations. Do we really have to escalate this to gpl-violations.org?

you can stop using the stolen code

indeed. so far, thats not the case however - and thus you must provide source.

"The GPL is a License, not a Contract"

I'm not forced to release the source, I simply lost the license to use that GPL code when you mentioned it. I thought it was MIT or BSD licensed. So I have two options now, release Defle source with GPL or stop using your emulator. I will stop using reSID.

Please read:
http://lwn.net/Articles/61292/
"The claim that a GPL violation could lead to the forcing open of proprietary code that has wrongfully included GPL'd components is simply wrong."
"You do have a choice under the GPL: you can stop using the stolen code and write your own, or you can decide you'd rather release under the GPL. But the choice is yours."

Thank god there has never been any license-violation in the c64-scene :).

but you realize that you are still obliged to give the source code for the version you already published to anyone that requested it, right?

FYI, I'm working in a new release that will use the MAME's SID core (which is BSD-3 licensed, just like the SN76489 source and many others) or a new emulation core done by my team.

This does not bode well either:

Please provide Administrator/Root privileges to DefleMask, it needs to have write permission in its directory.

No, looking at size of compiled Defle sids - believe me, nobody wants the source ;)

Keep your source. It's yours, after all. But use GPL software in a GPL-compliant way. Please.

"statically linking or dynamic linking an emulation is the same in this particular case because I didn't modify your resid"
nope, it's not. and what krill said :) lets see what the MAME ppl will say...

You guys want the defle source, this is not a discussion about how to link a gpl code (statically linking or dynamic linking an emulation is the same in this particular case because I didn't modify your resid) Don't be so lame.

Btw, you have just shared my private email? I take that as a "we are even" move.

Apparently, somebody hasn't understood the free beer vs free speech metaphor. Or how to interface a non-GPL program to a GPL program in a licence-compliant way. Now on whom's the joke? Or the lameness? :)

On 64bit Ubuntu 14.04, the following packages must be installed before running:

apt-get install libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libGL1-mesa-dri:i386 libGL1-mesa-glx:i386 libglu1-mesa:i386 libsdl1.2debian:i386 libgtk2.0-0:i386

I guess that the same ones are needed for 32bit system.
