Disk 1 runtime: 6:10
Disk 2 runtime: 7:43

Both disks are bootable.

If you run this on a non-VSP safe machine, you can disable the use of VSP by typing NOVSP in the top left corner of the screen, before you run the demo.

This demo is designed to be run on a real C64 with the 6581 SID chip. The Vice emulator does not handle emulation well when loading. This causes some glitches when there is action on the screen and the loader is active.

Some of the code in this demo was written by Ricky and Walt in 1998 and 1999. Rumours about this demo floated around the community for some years. In 2014 I, Trap, revived the project of what should have been the new Bonzai demo that Walt announced in a small teaser demo in 1999. Walt and Trap took the pieces and started building a more modern demo with references and design straight from the demoscene in the early 90's.
It took some time and a lot of lobbying to put together the old crew. We lost Crush in 2015 and it just so happened that less than a month before his death, he contacted me and said he wanted to code for the new bonzai demo. Dize, Metal, Scortia, Laxity, Drax and Fox joined the process and the production slowly started moving forward.
The design consensus was old and new. We wanted hold on to how demos felt back in the 90's and the design theme was set by Dize as being rooted in the old Bonzai values and signs - peacesymbols and hearts. Adding electronics as a common theme that you see throughout the demo.

The complete demo fills 6mb zipped. Unzipped the demo weighs in at 40,6mb in 1456 files which includes sourcecode, graphics, music and numerous tools written in C, Pascal and Powershell. We wrote exactly 28151 lines of 6510 assembly code to make this happen.

The music was written in numerous tools. Laxity used his own editor. Drax used the JCH editor (with the Laxity player), Metal used the JCH player too but an older version and Scortia used the PC program Cheesecutter. Jeroen Tel gave us a song to use for the credits part, but it wasn't used because we really wanted this to be a 100% original Bonzai crew production.

Graphics was drawn on PC using programs suchs as Timanthes, Pixcen, Sprite Editor 1.8 and Paint.

On a personal note I want to send the biggest shout out in the world to my wonderfull fellow Bonzists. You guys are the greatest 8-bitters in the world! I am proud of what we have achieved. Especially Walt needs praise for his persistence and incredible work ethics throughout the creation of this demo. Anders, you have my deepest respect. I already look forward to our next demo together ... in 2035 :)

We hope you enjoyed this demo. It was paid for in blood, sweat and tears by yours truly
