<3 zorro tune.
pls dont add more comments to this. 3d realms put a tune in their new game and my lawyers think it sounds too similar to my masterpiece here. all the money I get from the lawsuit will go to the foundation of unstoppable drinking sceners.

Just listened again after reveal of Ion Fury - C64 Easter Egg and can assure you, Smasher: You are not half as deaf as Fitzpatrick was most of the time (Zorro tune is still used by many Secret Services to torture prisoners).

Yeah, this is not composed, yeah, 4K is far over the top for this erhm... sound experience, of course. But if the ratio of size and length was better, let's say if this was less thank 1K I could even imagine it being used it in a minimalist (crack) intro.

Plus, it caused some avantgardists spilling their Martini, which is always a good thing, as long as there's drama, we're alive!

thanks DerRyk, yours is the best comment I could get. Legendary coders like John Fitzpatrick made tunes for games like Bruce Lee. Now every person who had a C64 in their life can whistle those simple notes even if last time he ran that game was 1987 and even if you wake him up at 4AM. So I'm very sorry for you guys, but MIDI drama Poop Nukem 3D will be remembered forever, while the masterpieces in this compo tomorrow are already forgotten! :)

MIDI drama aside
it sounds like early 80s coder-made game music :)

"Retouching gfx is imho not the best comparison as it's still orders of magnitute bigger effort than converting MIDI."
bullshit - if you want a decent result, then its also tons of work. and making a converted gfx that equals the quality of this tune (no offence) takes no more time than doing this tune :)

First AND last attempt, dear Doc! :) I'm back into coding, I've still a lot to learn there!...

MIDI or not - I have heard way worse stuff! So for a first attempt to play with SID and stuff, this is not that bad - or so they say ;-) ?

@Jammer, yes I agree.
But back to the music!! I wonder how many entries there will be this time?? It's awesome already!!

Sounds are actually nice, love that metallic reverb in it.

Retouching gfx is imho not the best comparison as it's still orders of magnitute bigger effort than converting MIDI.

@FatFrost, thanks for the support. don't forget to give me your bank details for the agreed payment for that! :)
@Ian, no worries, I won't make your hears bleed as my career as musician started and ended today. and I have no plans to start singing :)

@zesmasher, to be honest, when there was a previous pixel compo ( I forget which one ) somebody stated that it was ok that an artist had converted a pic and retouched it, as no one has the time to create from scratch anymore... so I don’t think your were doing anything bad by converting a midi file and making it work on the C64, as long as you claim you didn’t have the time to make a new sid from scratch you should be on really... ;)

so my entry will only be kicked out of the compo? just that?? you guys suck at punishments; I thought some physical severe damage or 24h without Internet. tsk tsk. :)
Sure, I'm 100% guilty here and I'm the new Ben Johnson. However we are living in a retro scene where everybody uses emulators, IDEs and tools on bigger machines to code, editors and converters for the gfx, etc, etc. So I'm ze devil but there are no angels here.
@Karmic: go listen to the original game on an old DOS PC with soundblaster card. It's pretty unpleasant but pretty accurate to the original.

Agree with Karmic. Should be allowed to participate, because 'waiting for your punishment :)'.

Even without the new rule, it loops at 1:09 :p

Probably would've scored low anyway, it sounds pretty unpleasant.

Well, in that case every music compo from now on would have to contain such trivial disclaimer that music is supposed to be your actual piece of handiwork to rule out converts. Actually, I cannot remember any music compo having that problem before (not counting micro music competitions with procedural stuff). ZeSmasher simply crashed compo system, autodestruction in 10... 9... 8... :D

so if you had not stated anything about how you made it you would be in? Strange rules!

Compo rules don't handle that exception but it's practically 100% outside compo - to be fair with participants crafting by hand. Naturally, I'll have to get Didi's confirmation on that.

Pierre de Cubertin certainly wouldn't approve of bot running the race for you, whereas you just hold a pilot, sip Mojito and relax under umbrella in front of starting line xD

exactly. got a midi, edited/cleaned it with a tracker, converted to swm, added instruments with sid-wizard, saved as sid.
waiting for your punishment :)

So it's not really handmade cover, just plain convert from MIDI files or sth? I'm afraid that case might be somewhat problematic :P

"the most important thing in the CSDb crack intro music compo is not winning but taking part" - P.de Coubertin
merciless cut before the minute to fit into the rules.
hey, I'm just playing with Sid-wizard and some converting tools, I cant play a single note on any instruments.
