This really is absolute mastery. I keep coming back to this one.

“JackAsser @raistilin: i suppose my ”downvote” with 9 on various demos makes more sence now?!”
… it would - but the 10s for “PowerPoint Demos” cancels that argument :p … my personal taste is for pure codep0rn demos, like this one, with less filler.

JackAsser: Krill showed me a preview of Edge of Disgrace remade as a 4K demo. Sweet stuff :-) ... you’ll understand my downvote once he’s finished :-p

Why am I only seeing this now..?

I was seriously knocked back ... and then I saw that it was 4K. WHAT?

Remind me, is this 4k? We need more 4ks by Plush. Soon.

The "Artefacts"/"Artifacts" really made me laugh! You, Krill are crazy. Nice to have met you at X'2012, what an honour for me. Great 4k, one of the best ones around.

Undoubtedly the best 4k ever. That goes both for presentation and music. Somewhere in China is a student whom I made a SID music addict with Fanta's song :)

Hm. 4k. Loaded, started, and I don't think I should believe what I can see.

F'u guys :) This is some seriously great stuff.

Thanks :) Yes, it took quite a while to code, but it was fun, of course. One reason to release the sources was that people can re-use the tools and ideas for their 4k demos, jfyi. :)

Great stuff. it must have been rather difficult to do though , judging from additional special tools you made , like optimizers :) thumbs up for sources.

Sure. I'm a perfectionist.
But seriously, afaik, "Artefacts" is the British spelling, and "Artifacts" the Websteresque American spelling. So these names are also used to distinguish the PAL from the NTSC version. :D

Pedantic? :)

Many thanks for all the positive reviews :D

That big pixels sucks statement is now more than six years old, and i really felt like doing some more complex stuff. The effects are not fast, of course, but at an okay speed considering their complexity.

But i can't really understand the "pc-phobia" going on.
For those who have been at BP, there IS a reason the non-C64-audience is more and more getting bored of C64 stuff, and it's not the C64's technological inferiority. I don't want to say we should lick their asses and only do "wannabe pc demos", but sticking to 2d and raster stuff only is not good either.
There is no reason for not doing some more complex stuff, and be it in some low resolution. And of course the C64 was not built for it, as it wasn't for FLI, VSP and more random abbreviations. :D

Finally someone made the voxelshit looking like what I once wanted the doom-routine to look like in my own production ;P

Thumbs up!

Really wonderful 4k intro and would be great even as a demo. I was very impressed with this one. It also has nice a bit 'exciting' atmosphere/feeling about it.. I also loved the music. It seems like the music complements the intro and the intro complements the music.. they complete each other perfectly. Fanta is a maestro and Krill is a genius!

Hey Krill, what ever happened to 'big pixels suck' ? ;)

Anyway, as someone who truly dislikes chunky-res effects, this is a prime example of how to do it RIGHT.
Awesome work, best looking voxel on the 64!

Ok ok, this is one of the best 4Ks so far, but get real.. It's not FAST!?!.

Rotating earth sphere at 1/4 framerate.
Voxelspace at 1/[6-7] framerate.
Vertical filler + rotated map at 1/[5-6] framerate.

Only after the prior Smash-designs era, someone would ever say that this is fast!

It's very nice though, don't get me wrong. Respect to Gunnar!

I haven't said "Hollly Motherfucking Shiit" in front of the monitor for years (well the Turkish version of that to be precise...). Until I did when I saw the landscape in this one. For me this is one of the most impressive products in the entire c64 history.

I agree with Oswald (surprising some may think :) ) that the effects here are amazingly fast that it is a bit pointless to criticise this for being PC-like. It is not chunky and slow math crap we are talking about here. it is the best landscape ever... in 4K !!!!

great job Krill... big respect

Only Krill can beat this one :)

@Monte Carlos: It is not the first open source demo. I remember some demos released with source codes like "you know the routine/camelot" and a few 256 byte intros before. If you mean first open source 4kb... maybe :)

Ofcourse this is the best 4k ever, with the best voxel ever (including demos) in it. All my thumbs up (and my dog's).

It's sad that a lot of people apreciates VIC trickery and 50fps only, and cant see the beauty behind such a code.

The first "open source demo". Landscape rocks. but i didn't like the artefact.
that everything is moving, the floor, the sky, that is again great!

Out of this world!! This sure was worth waiting for. The sickest and most impressive 4k I have ever seen. I was quite surprised to see comments not all positive, but then, having such high expectations of Krill must be a good sign. I will impress all my friends with this one.

The planet and the landscape were excellent, while the artefact was way too messy and chunky. Not Krill's finest, but a good one.

Ok, this is a hard one. I like it very much, it has impressive, although PCish effects (nicest voxel landscape I've seen on c64 at least). And it had a plot, which seemed to have been influenced by PWP demos. But as some people have said already, I don't think this is Krill's best work, although a very good one still.

The way how Britelite's 4k and this one are very different in style made it very hard for me to judge which one is better, so it became a stalemate until I deduced one point from Britelite for the music. Also kudos to Krill for being brave and releasing source, maybe even idiot like me can learn something from it. :)

This is an awesome achievement! No one should criticize this, unless they think they can do better!

Nice touch with the changing colours and the end artefact model when the demo loops (or am I mistaken about the artefact?).
