Interesting, the fast version is almost identical to my LZMV compressor. It's basically just 6502-tweaked LZSS, chosen for speed and simplicity.

I updated the table in the production-notes comment with some data I got from Doynax's packer. It turns out to be a really nice packer! Smaller files then Byteboozer + faster depack! Thumbs up from me :D

Doynax : Sure I can, just send it over to me :) (any depackers should meet the requirements of being called by setting some zp or a/x/y and a jsr).

Any more requests?

Also, it's not really an LZ packer, because there's no buffer.

I'm assuming the name is a pun on WVL and that it's not really an LZW packer, that is using a separate buffer. Right?

Any chance of seeing a few more crunchers in the tests? I'm thinking mainly of Exomizer but if you publish the demo code I'd love to try out my "optimized" ByteBoozer version as well.

As for improving the packer itself, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I wasted a lot of time playing around with so-called optimal parsing without gaining more than an another half a percent or so. Still.. YMMV.

probably some room for improvement in the packer, since it's just linear scan&pack.

Extremly good shit! I'll try it for EotB to make the level loading even fastah! Please release the packer-source aswell so that we can port it to whatever OS we like.

well done. I know exactly where I could have used this but it's too late :) I'll keep LZWVL in mind for future projects.
