Well that loader is one of the fastest around - but only if you know how to deal with its limitations.

"Does Krill loader has 8-bytes transmission without acknowledgement?"

No, it doesn't yet, but i have thought about a burst-based protocol a while ago. That technique comes with a few downsides, of course, like no sprites allowed outside IRQs, and IRQs delayed by a couple of rasterlines. Nobody needed it so far, so i added other features in the meanwhile.

Also, my research has shown that there is always a bit of interleave-dependence with the plain CBM file/disk format, even when loading file blocks out of order.

Well... Actually this technique was firstly used in Final 3 cartridge very long time ago... And later was implemented by Mr Wegi in 1996 in the tool called Loader Installer, check Loader Installer V0.1 and also you can find this technique in loader used in MS Cruncher V1.5+ here MS-Cruncher V1.5+

This technique was also used by K.M. very long time ago :)

Does Krill loader has 8-bytes transmission without acknowledgement?

The loader used in this collection is an unique NOINTERLEAVE IRQ loader, fastest in the world. You can see how fast graphics is loaded.
