Originally Elite intended to release a Scooby Doo action-adventure which was previewed in the common magazines and looked very promising. Then a long time passed and Elite published this crappy platformer, a completely different game.

I don't know how to vote for this. Should I vote the effort, taken in the crack, or the game itself? ;) I move on... atleast, nice work.

It is amazing Elite had the nerve to put this out..... The smell of money maybe could help ;-)

The new ending picture looks excellent !

The game is dire. It is amazing Elite had the nerve to put this out. 4 levels of boring looking jerky scrolling levels. Why is Scooby Doo yellow ? Then there’s all the direct from ZX Spectrum hires graphics.

Never have I been so grateful for trainers. What a seriously crap game. Lovely ending though.

(even though the game itself is quite crappy) Quite ??? :) Anyway, our purpose was to give to this shit a bit more dignity and a reason to be played. These games in loop are a shame if we consider the fact they were sold often with high prices. Any game should have an end, good or not, otherwise imho there's no reason to play the same levels eternally.

Really nice end-picture/music. Scooby Doo was one of the first games I remember trying out from turbo-tapes on the C-64 I got for x-mas exactly 20 years ago, so lots of nostalgia involved playing this again and even finishing it (even though the game itself is quite crappy). :)

HF mates, it's been an honour to add my fingerprint to this nice X-Mas gift :)

Fungus, Slator: It is partially controversial to discuss the rules of cracking as such, isn't it? :) It is against the rules by default and there are undefined limitless ways of expressing it. As a C64 release in 2010, this little gem is as pointless and obsolete as restoring an oldtimer car and equipping with some recent features like ABS or the like. Would that work better than the original? Sure. Will it satisfy traditionalists? Sure not. But, why should? Things are evolving.

Otherwise, there is no rule against starting your own game project (hey Fungus) then execute a proper crack on it to demonstrate the rightness of your side of truth ;) The 8-bit scene will be richer with any effort you spend on any production.

Well, probably more of these "stupid" releases will be done in the future. Draw the line .... that's an interesting question. Cracking scene exists since, let's say, 30 years? If we look it in a "conservative" way probably we should still stuck at crackers' signing on the sys line or ingame text rewritten by the cracker. Things evolving. I'm personally happy for the result of this version, this was a sort of guinea pig, and the add-on was a free selectable choice, also this shit keeps almost the whole memory which means it wasn't really an easy one even if from the outside could seems. In few words, we like to experiment new ways, we can deal if someone don't like it, we're happy if someone like it :)

I believe it is more a release for gamebase or lemon64 generally. I like the effort put in it, but the extra features are a bit too much for my "cracker" point of view. If the Ending would come from the original coder, or was bugged in the original and couldn't be reached then it is ok for me. Doing such stuff on a game not featuring this is like adding 100 new levels to rockford, which doesn't belong here either. I don't want to discredit this release but it is not my cup of team it changes the release completly to the way the "new" author wants it and away from the old version. It doesnt just better or fix it, it changes it dramatically. But it is a good thing that man can chose to have that feature or not.

I said my opinion on it, and that is how view it. I am allowed to feel any way I wish about it.

@Ian , well hell, how about we replace all the graphics, make new sids, recode the game, make new levels for them too! I won't take any TWG release seriously, they are not meant to be taken so, not a good example. As for MM, I don't agree with that either, nope sorry. Limited to one piece of hardware etc... not my idea of a nice release. There's a right way and a wrong way to do stuff, and you have to draw the line somewhere. Fixing bugs and repairing features that were left unimplemented (Marble Madness for instance) is something else entirely imo. This is my opinion and like it or not, ask me if I care, because I don't. This is the last I speak of it, unless there is more such stupid stuff released.

CODE YOUR OWN GAMES: which is game coding, not a "traditional way" to merge cracking and demo scene. Ian Coog said it right: you can choose! The original game is inalterated! Wanna play in loop 256+ levels? Fine! You can do it! Otherwise you can play the 4 levels and then have something this game (and many others) should have ... an end. What's stupid for you, it's an innovation for the others and I'm happy the others understood the real goal of this release. So do you think let this bullshit with 4 levels in loop with +3 only was better because the rest is pointless? C'mon .... rate it 5, this is of course your rightful opinion but think about it a little bit more please.

Quote:

"Enhancing" games by adding stuff the original developers did not create is just stupid imo.

like for example adding fixes to bugged code, fast loader, crunched and optimized data, REU support, hiscore savers, translations, joystick/mouse support where there isn't, online help/maps (even during the game, not only as a separate file) and whatnot? Think about it.
The trainer menu lets you choose to play the original looped game or add a final screen, it's your choice, aswell as to use trainers or not. The game as it was intended is there, the extra screen is not much more than that, an extra. Or do you think these releases are stupid aswell?

Again I see no point in doing that, if you want to make such efforts, CODE YOUR OWN GAMES. That is the TRADITIONAL way of merging cracking and demo scene. "Enhancing" games by adding stuff the original developers did not create is just stupid imo. Unless you would want to include something missing from the c64 version which was present on say... the amiga version. I don't mind the speccy converted pic, but adding new parts is just dumb imo.

Note to mods - QUIT DELETING MY COMMENTS AND VOTES YOU FUCKING NAZIS!

@Fungus: This crack is exactly the example of why it is good to add virgin graphics and other new features to a crack. Fusing demo into crack, the release is enhanced. This release rocks!

Did not like the game but I played it through the end to see the special ending! And it was a good one! That's what I was waiting for : bonified releases!

Thanks to all the people who appreciate our work. :-)
With this release we made some experiments… The Overkiller idea was interesting and so I studied a new code that was appropriate to the spirit of researching for new unexplored ways and code.
The scrolling text effect provides a double direction, but especially an effect like the color raster barlines obtained using sprites, however, in order to maintain inaltered the Joe’s pic in background.
The timing sync was hard to get perfect, but at the end we succeeded! ;-)

@Daison: thx, Necropolo did a really nice cover of an original Scooby Doo's tune, of course different from the one in the game's intro. The original tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TspaE1l8_8M

Usually good games have their proper ending, our goal was to add one to a game which hasn't its own ;-)
