Handlestory :
First time on IRC I joined some anime channels and chose the name of a character of 'Macross Plus' (alternative spelling). Nobody said anything on these channels, so I left. I was too lazy to change my nick and so my handle was and remained to be daison.
Trivia :
I got my c64 when i was 7 or so ('85 i guess). I learned to code basic (along the lines of input a$ - print hello a$) and that's about all I did. Mostly copying from books. I didn't know anyone who knew ML. I remember asking my dad how crackers were able to crack software while it was impossible to LIST the code ;) He answered that they must be doing it in ML, but that was all ones and zeros... and that was it...
So at the age of 16 and no clue what to do with the rest of my life, I started studying computer science, basically because I liked the games and scenestuff a lot. There I learned a lot, but no demo coding ofcourse. However, there were people with skills around so I picked up a few things, mainly on pc. Virtually no asm tho.
Me and some classmates formed a PC group called 'Shinobi' but it never lead to anything worthwile.
Then emulators came and I started following the c64 scene closely. I started appreciating it over the pc scene, simply because of the system limitations and because the 64 was my first true love of course ;)
After finishing my studies, I became a professional programmer in many 3rd generation languages (C#, PHP, stuff like that) and loads of SQL...
Around 2000, I started coding in TASM. I knew that I could shift te screen offset with a certain register so I had an idea of how to do a smooth scroll, but BASIC proved to be insufficient. So I did that in TASM back then. It was a pretty lame routine with a scroll of max $ff characters...
For some reason, I left it at that...
Then, one night, 2 weeks after x'2008 when I was watching Edge of Disgrace (again) I wanted to look up that old .d64 with the tasm source of my scroller, but I couldn't find it. (Yes, I've managed to lose a disk on my disk...)
It turned out to be good thing, because I decided to do it all over again, but this time I would use a cross assembler. Downloaded KickAssembler and it contained some examples on playing music, decent scrollers, koala's and such... I really went through all the code, studied it closely and learned a lot within a few weeks.
After 3 months The Shadow asked me to join Avatar, out of the blue.
The rest must be history :)
