Release id #196041 : Spy Story +GMW
This release takes on stage again (yes, again!) the whole circus with jugglers, dwarves, international standars and acceptable release's suffixes.
PLEASE NOTE FIRST! This is not a debate about who's wrong or not, this is the friendly attempt to have more "standardized" standards (actually, why have "standards" if they are not standard?).
Those are the discrepancies to chat about, one by one:
- usage of "+": VN rules use the sign just as "plus, reporting as example "namegame+D" as a crack with no trainers and with docs, but, just the first example I found in alphabetic order here at CSDb) 1942 +H has a veeery explicative comment about!
- usage of "W": personally I've never seen it for "walkthrough", I'm acquainted about the classic "S" for "solution"...
- usage of "G": hard stuff here... VN writes "Symbolises more than one key initiating in-game trainer" (w00t?); I guessed that G would stay for "addition of graphics ex novo in the game itself, and in Spy Story +GMW "G" means "a brand new intro bitmap that the game didn't have before"; so, what about the usage for the related suffix "!" (or "Pic")?
- usage of "M": International Standards and VN reports the well known "megatrainer, with in-game keystrokes", Spy Story +GMW boasts a larger definition for it, a vague "modification of the code". |

all that matters here is how csdb handles it, not VN or some ancient notefiles. there is no standard per se.

Oh this is very interesting indeed!
This quite complete text file includes a "+" for "plus" combined to any suffix, uses "W" and doesn't consider "S" for "solution" (e.g., Behind Closed Doors 6 +W)... |

We can conclude this is not settled. VN standard and Groepaz standard differs. Thing is that the VN standard is for naming releases, and the Groepaz standard was meant to be used for CSDb. In the ideal world these standards would match. |

They do match for the most part. And even Jazzcat was involved in it / approved it.
Not that it matters, since none of it will ever get implemented anyway. |

Besides standards and if they match or not, the usefulness on CSDB also depends on the ability to search for a specific ending, but I think this is not possible, correct? At least I wasn't successful with constructs like "*+H" in CSDB's advanced search. |

I remember that "+"/"++"/"+++" used to be accepted as 1/2/3 trainers in the 80s but here I've been "corrected" frequently when setting something to "+D" -> oh no, it must be "+1D" if one trainer's available. In these ancient .TXT files you also find contradictions such as whether "M" is "modification" (probably the more modern definitiion) or "mega trainer" (sure rather 80s), "map" anyone, hehehe.

@wil: One problem with searching this way is that one group might tag it "+HDF" and another group uses "+FDH"
