First!
Hey, a new topic, just for graphics. Nifty!
I used to draw pictures in Koala Painter a looong time ago.
Now I draw on paper and scan it into Photoshop:

Do any other old C64 graphic artists still draw today, outside the C64 scene?
I know Hobbit/Fairlight works at a comic book publisher today. Does anyone else draw for a living?

Greetings to all Graphicians!
I am wondering which paint-program is prefered by you.
Seen some fullscreen Interlaced FLI pictures, but don´t really know which programs are easiest to handle and if there are certain limits involved.
Hope you can help me out!

Hi Tch!
Take a look at this link:
http://www.studiostyle.sk/dmagic/gallery/gfxmodes.htm
For me, the easiest gfx-mode to handle is definitely IFLI in a stable version of Gunpaint (or Funpaint 2 as an alternative).
Basically, IFLI gives a lot of freedom while pixelling (nevertheless: on a huge area, almost the whole screen), so you could make wonders in it, as long you do well in handling the flickers and the transitions.
Painting in a pixel program from Crest's workshop is mostly a real pain in the ass. It takes way too much time to pixel. Usually it becomes more like solving a delicate, hard-core puzzle and takes all the fun out of painting. If you prefer such a way of producing pictures - I'd recommend Crest's UIFLI (e. g. Underlay Interlace FLI).
Drazlace may also be a good choice, with a standard multi-color 3+1 restriction on a 320x200 resolution (interlaced).
And last but not least, everyone likes multi-color: Amica Paint 1.8e is definitely the best editor for such pieces. |

Thanx Jailbird!
That was just what I was looking for!
Hadn´t even heard about MCI. ;)
As you may have noticed,I did use Crest´s SHFli program to create "Xmas 2004".
It didn´t take that much time (4 days) to complete, but it isn´t that big ofcourse.
I have never done an interlaced picture before, because I really don´t like the flickering.
But (sorry Graham) I will try it out with UIFLI I think.
I simply love those small dots!
Well, maybe first I´ll try the one without interlace.
Always where good at making my mind up. :P
And ofcourse I will keep on using Amica Paint!
But I´ll stick to the German one,I got all confused with the translated version eventhough most functions are imprinted on my DNA. ;)
Thanx again! |

Graham, when will you release your book of axioms? I'd like to learn more about the scene!

@HEIN,
Never heard of Micro Illustrator before, but have seen the Black Mail Fligraph a long time ago.
I used the one by Dolphins most of the time, eventhough it had the tendency to crash,AARGH!!!
Taught me to save often when working with computers. ;)
Not a bad word on Multicolor from me,but it is an old dream of mine to work with the "little" dots.
BTW,I was a fan of Boris Vallejo already when I saw Dutch Breeze all those years ago.
I had always thought it would be impossible to render his work on a C64,you absolutely baffled me. :)
Groetjes.. |
