Co-Op Projects

Hello all

This might not be the right section for this post, feel free to relocate to where appropriate.

I find myself with a lot more time on my hands these days but strangely enough I get less coding done then when I am pulling 18 hours work days.

I was trying to figure out why that is as I have several interesting projects going on. I came to the conclusion that it's a drag to have no-one to sparr with and work together with (other coders in CTR are inactive). So I was wondering if this is only me and also suggestions for how to proceed in regards to polling together cross-group resources for projects which may be interesting for people?

I would like to point out I am talking about coding projects in this case, as graphics and music can be handled once the project(s) are done.

Cheers and have a good weekend.

I have the same sentiment, the other coders of House Designs are too busy living their lives and I have too much free time on my hand. I love to code, but I do need the encouragement and discuss ideas/techniques with other people. I picked up 6502 coding again the fall of 2015, having produced 3 things (a virus, a demo and an intro), and had to do the coding (and debugging) all by myself. As much as I like coding, being an "island on your own" doesn't feel very rewarding to me.

To solve this I resorted to working with people outside of House Designs. Not in the sense that I've started doing co-ops (but that might change in the future), but encouraging eachother exploring things and exchanging ideas. So I try to contribute a little to various projects, doing feature requests for Kick Assembler, submitting error reports for C64Debugger (you really should check this out, it's an awesome tool!), helping fellow coders out with some stuff (hi Dr.j!), you get the idea, giving a helping hand when one is needed.

In my humble opinion, there is no shame or whatsoever working together with other groups/people. There aren't much of us active C64-loving people left, so resources are getting scarce.

I do disagree though on our opinion though that graphics and/or music could be done in a later stage, that depends on the design of the demo. For example, in my Shezzboard demo displayed at X'2016 triggering the different "effects" on the Shezzboard were initiated by action commands in the scroller, which I aligned to the music.

fully agree. I've been thinking since a year or so that there should be a place for coders to chat about projects and get feedback and moral support and help :)

I had to try that out for myself, it has been ages since I've used it. And yes, it still exists and works! :)
