Best Turbo Assembler for C64 and manual?

Peeshaya/Airsomjith

Hi!

What is the best Turbo Assembler to use for C64? And is there a manual for list your d64, run and convert prgs?

Thank you!

Turbo Macro Pro, especially if you have REU. It has all the docs on the web plus compatible cross assembler TMPx. Another great Turbo Assembler clone is Virtual Assembler but only if you have SCPU or you are planning to work under Vice emulation with SCPU enabled.

Most people those day use cross assemblers. Some are compatible with TA syntax.

Unless you really want to code on the c64 itself, I would advise to use a cross assembler. 64TASS V1.55.2176 is turbo assembler compatible for example.

There is also KickAssembler, which requires java.

Many other good options exist, but it really depends on what your goals are.

My usual advice is: use whatever the people use that you can ask for help

As for native TASS i prefer the original TASS-Macro (cracked by Antitrack) over all those questionable hacked versions. At the end it doesnt really matter, they are all very similar afterall.

Thanks again guys! My goals is to do paintings on C64 and eventually intros with only coding. I like more to sit with the C64 to get hands on but I can go for cross-assembler also ofc.

Im reading "Machine Language" by Jim Butterfield and hanging in codebase + looking at the memory map on C64-Wiki.

I also learning to do music more. TASM seems so oldschool and cool and Kickassembler have maybe more functions?

For learning the basics TASS on C64 is an excellent choice, doesnt really matter which version you use. I also recommend using a Cartridge with ML monitor, like Action Replay 5

That is nice! But is there any guides/manuals or key instructions to this TASS programs for C64?

I know how to navigate and write but I mean like read directory, save and load your source code? execute the file etc.. There are many assemblers but not so many instructions.

If someone sitting on some oldschool assembler TASS "let's-go coding" info? I would be so happy to know!! <3

I can not open this on my C64 with REU installed.
I can not open the normal or the 128_1de64 even with the sys 8*4096 command.. It does not work on Vice64 either.

When you start up it says "?file not found error"

Same with the release by Singular (SGR)

Are someone familiar with this problem? Thanks
