The "writer" type programs

I recalled the writer type programs today at work. You know the ones where you write on the screen, then the program can play it back.

I remember writing one of those back in the day, but didn't really remember much about it other than it used kernal routines, and then you just stored all the keypresses in a buffer, and just played it back.

I was looking at kernal routines etc. for hours, and finally came up with a shitty program 🤣 (you can't save, lol).

I didn't remember that the cursor caused so many headaches back then, but I kind of got it to work, but it is ugly in writing mode.

Haha, I'm wondering how much I coded it the wrong way, or how it can be optimized/done smarter, especially the cursor stuff.

Have a look, if you're interested in this spaghetti code 🤣🤣🤣: https://pastebin.com/xz7SmVSQ

Cheers!

Hmm interesting. The Gamebusters 1541.

I was briefly a member of this group :) Really nice guys, Zeus and Bingo. I mostly communicated with Bingo.

Then Liteace wanted me to come join him in a new group that was forming, called The System, but I could't bring myself to call Bingo and tell him, so Liteace did it.

I've always felt bad about that, and I was only in The system briefly. I don't even remember what happened to this group, but I recall Kaze not liking how my sprites rotated. They were in the wrong order, in his opinion (probably being behind eachother, instead of in front of each other, in the direction they were rotating.)

Funny how memories come back, just like that :)

But cool to see they made this writer :)

I second Zyron & Adam on the FutureWriter tools ... they were another great favourite of mine.

Dark Warrior was also another writer I liked.

Lots of feedback, but still nobody bothered looking at Starfox' own experiment, it seems. :)

Nice idea from Aleksi!

@Scrap , ScrapMess V5 was probably the most used one. At least I used it a lot! What a cool tool (like all the earlier versions too).

Sooooo - lets make a compo about this? :)

(Scrap obviously would be pre-disqualified! hehe)

TBH: I liked the modular loadable effect on one of the scrapwriters (cant remember versions) back then. Was mediate fun to do some own creations. :)

I did my own little "writer" routine for Good Vibrations diskmag. While music played, the reviewers Me and Wotnau wrote their review about the music, and it was then presented in the magazine along the tunes Good Vibrations #1

Maybe it should play _only_ the arkanoid title tune? Arkanoid writer.

All good writers should have only one tune, one font and a spritescroller in the lower border. ;)
