Release id #174944 : Forbidden Forest

I use Assembly64 to (auto)check if a releases is in CSDB or not.

I'm afraid that the entries with no downloadable file will make assembly64 believe that the release is available and will mark the checked disk as 'preserved'.

I don't think that it is a good idea to add releases that might exist...

It does not "assume" anything, I believe. It compares checksums, which rules out the entries without files, of course.

mmm, ok

But still... why do we add releases that are mentioned somewhere ?

It is helpful to hint the archivers like Acidchild, so that they can specifically search the archives for a certain filename.

The question is: why would we care about some leecher app doing it wrong?

There's no politically correct term for 'fucking idiot'.

Each prg of a d64/d71/d81/tap gets splitted into 8 checksums, and Elaine will check your prg's against those checksums.

An entry in CSDB with no download-links, will end up with no checksum traces. So in your case, Elaine will be highlight your files as "not preserved"... I truly hope :-)

@groepaz: it's a great app in general but especially for finding releases that are not in CSDB.

Why are you posting this on this entry? What do you know about the Code-X crack of Forbidden Forest? Do you have a dispute with the credibility of this entry in particular? I'll explain why I did it / what my criteria are in general:

Cracker's scroll/text says "check out our other releases that came out today" (or a specific date in the past).
Those get entries if the claim seems credible.

Cracker's scroll/text says "also check out our crack of ______". It's a little more iffy with no date but it gets an entry if the claim seems credible.

...says "here's a list of our cracks", gets entries w/r/t credibility.

...says "some day we're going to crack _____", no entry.

I make blank entries as much for myself as anyone else, and I'm not going to send myself on a wild goose chase. I believe this release exists. Hell, nobody's going to brag about cracking Forbidden Forest in 1988. If they were going to pose they could do way better than that.

doh, double post. Might as well use it for more wind-baggery. I also make an entry if, say, Group A shits on (or praises but you rarely see that!) Group B's release, or says it's a recrack or whatever, and Group B's release doesnt exist in the Db.

I think as far as Db entries go (not as disk collections go), blank entries are just about as good as corrupt ones. Having the knowledge that the release exists sends the same signal to preservers as having a bad copy of it. If there's some speculation involved then I'm comforted by the fact that everyone takes this seriously and doesnt create frivolous entries.

Adding entries for release that are known (or at least strongly likely) to exist is how csdb has worked since forever. Its how other people who are dedicated to digging through other peoples collections find them and add them to the db (knowing what to search for makes it a lot easier).

I find current cracks being added without downloadable files much more irritating and questionable myself.

There's no politically correct term for 'fucking idiot'.
