Well here's one data point. JVC TM-H1750CG professional video monitor, factory calibrated — I've never touched any of the controls beyond volume and saturation. Notably the image is convex and not concave.

This one is really interesting... almost perfectly square picture with black "border" around it, yet it doesnt show the entire range. Funky. (Or does it only look like there is a black border in the picture, and its really the monitor bevel?)
PS: it would still be good if you could verify the geometry using that "Testbild" program... ie check if the circle isnt totally distorted |

It's hard to tell what the border is made of as it's inside the glass. Some kind of plastic film? It has a slight stair stepping to it.

This is really hard to do. I have a Sony PVM 14L4, which was last calibrated professionally in 2014. There is no user-accessible way to adjust the geometry (and I'm not going to open it, it's sealed). The C64 image is not perfectly centered. I assume that to be the correct way.
The visible part of the Trinitron tube is essentially rectangular, so the difference between the two lines is minimal:

the vertical "non centering" actually looks spot on - it should be 8 pixels more on the left than on the right. Thanks! |

Can't properly read the right-border numbers there, will the next version come without compliance to borderline compo restrictions? |

Frankly spoken, this is the first time I ever saw a c64 output with such a narrow right sideborder!

nope. its exactly what happens when you use a C64 at a properly calibrated TV set - 8 pixels more in left border than in right border. |
