The band Scooter started with the C64...

... and did anybody know H.P. Baxxter's handle back then or was he active in the scene?

Never heard of it. But it was noteworthy ,saw it in a little documentary:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cf53MfZ6Eo
At least he tells it there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMd9UWTALv4 I remember this storming my area in late 90. I prefer to remember X-Ample things from Thomas, definitely :P

C64 is mentioned explicitly although I would not really bet my ass that H.P. remembers system correctly.

My feeling is more what groepaz sez: rather early 16 bit stuff

According to YouTube Baxxter created music in "Rick's" cellar. Wikipedia states that Rick built a studio in his cellar after their first group, which existed from 86-93, discolved. Therefore Baxxter must have had a C64 in his cellar in/after 93... unless they made music in Rick's cellar without a studio.

This left aside it sounds a lot more like an Amiga (500 perhaps) to be honest.

I think the essential fact here is the address, i.e. Leer/Germany, which according to Wikipedia is the city where HP Baxxter (Hans Peter Geerdes) was born. I think that makes it safe to assume that it's the same person.
Also the alien in the intro looks a lot like him... :)

If it's not fake, it would be nice to look at the code...
Since it would probably reveal if real or not.

Coding back then was more limited...

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :)

Any other examples of c64 sceners turned IRL musicians? The only one I can come up with of is Zonix/Bonzai, who started Barcode Brothers, and composed some of Aqua's tunes. I think I've also heard some Aqua member, probably Søren Rasted, mention that he had used a c64 for composing back in the days.

Volker Meitz (PRI/Oxyron) is a professional Jazz musician nowadays.

S.P.O.C.K. was another example with at least 2 members of the group with connection to the scene - http://generation64.se/android/

yeah his album (only one?) is actually quite kool. I play it very often.
Cresh/Elysium told me once he met him on a concert in Warsaw and Volker was surprised that people still remember him as PanoRama Inc :)

Awesome!!!

Wonder if there was more stuff from Baxxter.
Many groups, did intro link other stuff back then...
Code looks quite 198x in intro, so it might not be a fake.

OK, gotta uncover the secret now: in fact it is a fake, courtesy of Awsm. :-)
I just happened to get on his trail, that's how I became an accomplice. He set it up as kind of a sociological experiment - he'll explain the details himself, I think. :-)
So Baxxter needs to be merged as fake handle to Awsm.
Hope nobody gets mad at us now! :-P

Congrats again bugjam, it was amazing how fast you got me and thank you for playing a part in this ;)

Well, it was much less a "sociological experiment" and much more a consequence of too many beers and some serious coding n00bness to be honest ;)

The idea started back in June 2015 when I discussed with a yet undisclosed scener (who is responsible for the music) how funny it would be if HP Baxxter was actually a cracker. I'm not really sure anymore how we came to this topic (see "too many beers"), but it didn't take long and that little intro was born. There is a strange satisfaction in producing something really shitty on purpose :D

After the video being undiscovered on youtube for 1.5 years I thought it was about time to give it a little - final - push and posted on lemon64.

I hope you guys are alright with this little joke. While these are not the droids you're looking for, Scooter could still very much be a cracker, we just haven't found his releases yet ;)

I wish you all a very happy and better $7E1 !

there was some funny documentation about scooter on german tv a while ago.... at some point HP refers to "protracker on the commodore 64" - perhaps you can find this program too?!
