Multi timberal SIDs
I'm curious of the best examples where the composers really overcome the limitation of three channels in the composition. Two examples I come to think of:
Powerhouse

one of my faves.
True Love Fails
not sure others will feel the same, but to me this sounds like 6 channels. multiple layers are intertwened at the time wonderfully. |

Anything by JT is great, alright, but to my ears the exact opposite of "multi timberal" sounding. Classic 3 voice restrictions almost always shine through very clearly when it comes to most classic composers from the heyday ^^ |

Haha, that's a good one. :D I actually noticed my spelling mistake, but too late and csdb isn't really favorable to editorial changes it seems.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a listen for sure. I'm actually impressed that you manage to come up with some stuff, given the somewhat vague topic. ;) |

JT is the greatest :D To my ears he was a pioneer overcoming the limitation of three channels Sound and composition-wise.
Other than the ordinary "still common" approach by adding a Bass to a Kick and using Toks/Tiks and Short Arps on one channel or whole notes on 3 channels as a chord on only few rows he was also playing Arpchords as whole melody in the song structure. That was a whole new era in Sidland.
Maybe it was my 16 years old brain that got confused hearing chords played as a lead. I thought the lead was still in there as I know now it was the root of the chord. But maybe that more a limitation of my mind other than the 3 channel ;)
@Linus
If we mean by Multi Timbral thinking you're listening to one voice and hearing two or more than your tune
"I Dig up more graves you'll will ever find" is quite an example :D |
