sid2sng Windows builds

Because I read some people have problems compiling this [https://github.com/2bt/sid2sng] for Windows you can maybe try these versions:
https://jansalleine.com/trans/sid2sng.zip

32 and 64 bit versions included in the zip. Crosscompiled on Linux with mingw32 GCC. I don't have any Windows to test. They work in WINE... It's a command line tool, so use in CMD (or Powershell) or whatever stupid "terminal" like program Windows has nowadays...

Use at your own risk and happy instrument stealing! :-P

I've never "stolen" instruments, I've only borrowed them and gave them back (almost undamaged)

Thanks for the win build, spider, will try out and report.

@hedning Thanks for adding. Wasn't sure if a random Github program that doesn't even have any releases / builds attached would count as scene release. I thought to count someone had to slap a crack-intro in front of it ... ;-P

I would like to see someone create a diskpack with only SNG files of all the SID files made in Goattracker out there. A new GP release? :)

I guess those composers that put lots of efforts in sid instrumentation fear this tool a lot more than I do. That said, I already previous done some SID dumps of the songs I wanted to investigate. This tool is therefore really nothing new under the sun, - it only comes with a much more preferred output-format of a SNG file (making it friendly for everyone to use) rather than textfile dumps and post scripts cleaning things up etc.

Cheers Magnar

Well, you built it and supplied it, and I just archived it before it was lost. Just the source would not be anything for CSDb, but this seems useful. ;)

Very useful.

sid -> sng -> swm
If i was only unemployed I would live in complete symbiosis with Sidwizard/Breadbin.

Thanks both of you for sharing the sng packs above!

The guy who wrote sid2sng sent me an email today saying he just compiled a exe of another tool.
https://github.com/2bt/sid-monitor

You can play the song and see the voices on a piano roll and move/listen though the song frame by frame and analyze the register content. You might find it useful. At the github page you can see what keys to push in order to study the SID.
Just drop a sid on the exe, slap space and enjoy :) really interesting I think.

Can this tool be added CSDb too? (despite the lack of a crack-intro slapped on it :) :P).

I should be helpful here so I uploaded it myself:

Checked out if it has any of my songs and got a good laugh seeing that it has Wiskarin_Hautatanssi.sid which was too shitty to release under my own name. :D

This probably wasn't a good idea, you might want to redirect your time and energy at creating new instead of spreading broken versions of old stuff.

Dude ... if you have the balls to release .sng files without permissions from the authors at least check if they actually work. The ones I checked (mostly my own) are indeed broken. Thanks for nothing.

Also ... what Ian Coog said.

mibri: obviously not, as I said, it's a 0 effort pack, which shouldn't be even allowed as an entry here.
It's like taking some random prgs, batch process them with a disassembler and making a disassembly pack of random executables. I have absolutely no idea how one can think this can be valuable as a release.

hedning, my Drama Dolphin shall remain firmly in the Drama Aquarium! Buuuuuut...

The wavetable data is very clearly wrong/broken in the following SNG files: City Noises (early version), Even Uneven, Funky Bravah, I Dug Some Graves You'll Never Find, Keygen Music, Nameless Traveller, Permadeath, Persona Non Grata, SID on Fire, Stomp, Teh Disco, Thir(s)ty, Urban Canyon Cruising, and maybe a few more, I stopped looking. That's quite a lot of buggy files! I have to wonder if the maker of the pack checked the files before creating this release...?

I make this comment chiefly because the sid2sng tool's developer may wish to consider fixing whatever's causing this wavetable data issue.

Just stop doing this. Anyone can run sid2sng themselves on any gt tune if they want, no need to make these kind of 0 effort packs.

@Conrad im sorry. the next update i make i will try to get permission fron all the people who i ripped sngs from (if they have a csdb or discord so i can ask for permission).
and im p sure i never did shitty worktunes.

I don't know about you, but I think this release is a really bad idea. The tool itself is a cool thing, but this? Naah. I hope you have some blessing from the authors spreading more or less doubtful sng-files of their songs. They should have stayed on your harddrive. Better prepare for the Drama Dolphin.

Hi! I haven't had a look what's in the zip-archive. But I think this might be better filed under another release type. A C64 music collection from my understanding should be able to run on a c64.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It was a stupid idea. Entry got deleted. People will go on. Complaining about "shitty no life sng packs" is also kind of "no life" XD

But keep in mind for next time: noone needs any "releases" that can be produced by simply writing a shell script / batch file themselves.

Excuse my stepping in here, but... before this "pack-mishap" happened, i actually had a quite longish chat with That8BitChiptuneGuy. And i wrote a very detailed, noob-friendly explanation of certain pitfalls about releasing stuff on CSDb to him. It was on a certain discord server for a certain forthcoming "transcoding" software... so... the steep part of the learing curve still seems to be ahead, as i personally dare to suspect.

What do you guys think about a browser based sid2sng? This way you Windows folks won't have to suffer though the hassle of building (but I will have to suffer a bit more instead).

seems like overkill for a tiny application. just compile a windows exe and upload it here to csdb, along with link to source in the release. :)
