ARMSID
If i can fix my breadbox with the armsid, then i can perhaps make some new c64music.
What is your experience with the armsid? |

Quoting Groepazall the digital parts are pretty much the same for 6581 and 8580 :) Would be news to me. :) What about the mixed waveforms? Some musicians have strong opinions about 6581 vs 8580, and not because of different analogue filter properties. :) |

Analog side effect :) (It would be so cool if those were simply created digitally - we could even emulate them properly then =P) |

Not sure what you are trying to say - but its neither. Its different between individual 8580s even, and depends on Temperature, Frequency, Phase of Moon.
Edit: And what changed in this area of the chip is not the circuit at all, that is identical. The differences can be totally attributed to the different process and material (and perhaps layout?) - ie analog properties.
PS: someone please come up with a model to synthesize those waveforms in realtime so we can get rid of the crappy static tables |

Okay, didn't know there is still some uncertainty in the effects.
But then the differences caused by that are much greater between 6581 and 8580 in general than between different specimen/revisions of either 6581 or 8580, no? :) |

Sure. also the differences between individual 6581 are much bigger than those between individual 8580 (which makes it really hard and annoying to even test it with 6581) |

imho the armsid is a worthy replacement, and 6581 mode also sounds good if you set the filter parameters to your likings.
i heard someone say that some of tel's tunes do not sound good on the armsid, but i cannot really point out which ones. |

Grue was so kind to hold a seminar about SID replacements at Transmission64, here it is:
