Can't comment on the quality of the emulation, but JCH's DeepSID is also a very nice player with a lot of bells and whistles: https://deepsid.chordian.net/

Definitely good enough for hacking sessions.

Xsidplay2 (https://iceteam.itch.io/xsidplay2)
that uses libsidplayfp or old libsidplay1 libraries

Players that run on Linux supporting SID that are not yet mentioned in this thread:

ZXTune: https://zxtune.bitbucket.io/

DeaDBeef: https://deadbeef.sourceforge.io/download.html

Most available Sidplayers that run on modern platforms can be found here:

Quote: If you don't mind compiling from source, VICE comes with VSID.

It has the latest ReSID and supports HVSC's SLDB and STIL. It also has some (unfinished) playlist support.
I wouldn't mind some testers, I've been putting off continuing work on VSID for far too long.

Compyx, I updated my bug report today especially for you. :)

I just happened to discuss this issue early this morning with dqh, I now know what the issue is, now I need to fix it.

Thanks for reporting =)

Wow, quite an old thread. However, since I'm here...

Quite a lot of today's players on Linux include native SID support. My "weapon of choice" to play SID (and Mp3/Ogg) would be the slick Audacious player.

It is pretty much available on any distro: https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Audacious/

beware of super outdated versions of libsidplay though (which unfortunately many of those players still use)

Audacious is based on libsidplayfp v2 so I think it is quite up-to-date.
