Intro Creation Competition Lite - Rules draft
This is another crazy idea - born at Mibri's demo show this week. Rules are draft and may be different if the compo really happens. So here is a draft for the rules:
Intro Creation Competition Lite
Task: Create an intro using an available intro maker.
Another compo idea from Mibri's demo show.
Rules:
- Intro must be created using an already available intro maker. Don't code your own for the compo! You have to add a link to the used intro maker when posting your entry.
- You may only change what the intro maker allows you to. No custom code or code hacks are allowed.
- Intro must be exitable by pressing a key (usually SPACE). Run/Stop+Restore to make it crash does not qualify for this function. ;-)
- Your entry must be executable and be handed in as PRG or D64. You are of course allowed to compress it.
So what do you think? Anyone up to join in. Annotations to the rules? |

can I create a new intro maker and use it to create an intro for the intro maker compo? or is that cheating? :)
anyway I like Didi's idea, because it could happen that a non-coder will have the best entry. Me in, but I don't run any intro maker since 1988 or so... |

Hmmm, I guess that's not an entirely retarded idea.

For some reason I didn't fuck up my school and go to war with my parents about c64 demos just to use an intro creator.
Did I fuck up? Probably. Did I learn picking those intro's apart and later horizon/bones demos, yes.
To suggest a compo using some ready-made tool is offensive to me.
Also, piemel! |

If an exploit is found for an intro maker, is that allowed? Eg. What if we find that loading a 64kb scrolltext allows us to loop through memory and overwrite ALL code (somehow without a crash)? |

You're on the right track. What about using a intro maker that allows loading SIDs? And the init of the SID would set up a proper intro? |

I'm going to search through the intro makers on my Ultimate 64 and various PD disks and see if there's any suitable ones for me to join in the fun ;) Although I do prefer to program my own ... :D |

Is using "CRESTS DEMOMAKER.PRG" on the tools disk of Krestology 100% allowed? |

I ctrl-c ctrl-v what you said. my mum reminds me everytime I meet her how I wasted my best years in front of the thing, she doesn't know I'm still addict today...
this compo is like asking Gordon Ramsay to put frozen lasagna in a microwave or selling books to Jeff Bezos. So not only offensive as you said, but humiliating too. who knows, maybe a compo like this will destroy me or make me a better man?
Compyx, do you want to do a coop entry for this compo? I choose the rastercolors and the font, you choose the sid and you will also type the scrolltext :) |

I like the exploit suggestions, though. Could make for interesting twists on the ever-similar output of those tools.
Then the rules should include submitting step-by-step instructions and the files used to load into the tool. Some magic key combos or similar should be alright, too. Just not breaking into monitor and patching things or runstop+restore plus magic SYS or something, probably. |
