c64.sk is dead

Hi everybody. C64.sk was 20 years on 20th of may 2021. I closed it few days before "the big day". If I didn't, I would forget to do it, so I did it all because out of sudden inspiration.

C64.sk was slowly dying for years already, and I think it's good it's now closed. I seriously think there was nothing that could resurrect it. CSDB is perfectly functional as far as documenting activities of C64 scene is concerned, anyone who wants, can follow the scene just by watching CSDB. Of course C64 scene isn't only about releases, it's about life outside the computers. It's about interaction with living people, it's about communication and stuff, but for that, c64.sk didn't have any special function that could follow it. Important note: ignore the last post at c64.sk, I seriously don't feel like doing anything right now, I'm happy being hibernated, scene-wise.

I wish I could say, that I created this thread to get some attention and consolation from all my fellow sceners. No, I didn't not. I just had couple of beers and I made some gfx stuff for my client and took break to check CSDB, and then answered some stupid post at lemon64 forums and then I recalled that there is something like c64.sk. And then I thought it might be a good idea to write some rant here. So I do.

I don't care, really. I think everything is ok, great, or at least as good as it gets. Seriously. I love you everybody. Do what you love to do, have fun.

See you on some party, or in cyberspace.

Peace!

;-)

Yeah, unlike c64.sk it has an active admin so it will not die this way.

here is a consolation for you tho, I knew c64.sk long before csdb and it was my daily c64 news site (not that there was anything else:) for a long time, then as you linked in new csdb posts, that was the thread that led me in here. Thanks Roman!

It's good that you're still keeping the website hosted, despite it won't be administrated anymore... it's a website that we can look back at in nostalgia, and how I did enjoy reading some of the news on there. Besides, there are many links to it from CSDb entries which I think should remain intact.

The highlight for me (and I guess for many C64 musicians active at the time) were the SID Compos you hosted, which had a semi-live chat area for reactions of new entries and that you could remain anonymous 'til the end ;), along with its very simple and effective voting system ... I will never forget that experience. :)

It's also cool to see who's birthday it is as well. ;)

Thanks for hosting a great little website Roman, and belated happy 20th anniversary! Did you know it's 7 months and 7 days older than CSDb? ... You're the bigger brother here. ;D Congratulations!

Best regards.

Hope to see you around on some party!

it had been THE portal to the worldwide c64 scene activity, immensely helping to keep it alive, before CSDb took over. thanks for all your awesome work!

I used C64.sk a lot during the early 00:s. Nice links, news and reports. Great coverage of parties going on and well, was a very good complement to the growing CSDb, C64.com and C64.ch and what had you.. Pouet.net ;D
Great work CreamD!

CreaMD, you did hell of a work maintaining this website through all those years and keeping scene spirit alive! Your SID compo was one of a kind and I miss it a lot.
Well done and thanks!
