there's a few good reasons for not releasing at "major" parties :-)
a) the demo was anything but finshed back then
b) competing with all kind of different plattforms in a combined compo is not my cup of tea
c) and most important: I am pretty sure that the X audience is capable best to judge and see what also is going on on the technical side in a demo. So i am conviinced, i target way more people who deeply value such a release than on a major party.

For me it’s your B) point Bitbreaker that’s the main one. I would never put in the effort we did with Mojo for a party that isn’t purely C64 as it simply wouldn’t get the right attention. Sure, smaller audience, yes, but at least one that understands the effort that’s gone into the production. And for us it wasn’t any “holding back”, most of the demo was done in the five months leading up to X with a clear aim for that particular party.

How exactly is X not the major party, and how is it preferred to release on modern pc party with an oldskool sidekick? *puzzled*

one can only imagine the impact it would have if monumental jaw-dropping productions like Mojo, Wonderland XIV, and Next Level (just to name a few that deeply resonated with me while watching the stream) were intentionally unveiled at major (cough) demoscene events like Revision.

I can imagine: it would not even get close to the impact these demos have at X and the c64 scene.

X *is* one of the two/three major parties in the entire scene. Only revision is bigger and it has no focus on the C64, there are zero C64-only compos and amount of c64-visitors is very low at revision compared to X.

also, this is the weirdest post party thread ever.

Don't worry, I'm not on the mission here. X is huge. Revision (and other) parties that turned all old to oldschool eintopf pretty much suck thanks to "trying to please everyone".

But still, we (The Scene) should either totaly ignore it, or make an organized creative assault.
Naah forget it, im pretty satisfied by having parties that are organised and visited by people I love and care about. And having just the categories and events that actually matter to me.

A weird post-party discussion indeed. All I can say is that I'm glad all these magnificent proofs of skill (multi-group or not) were released at a dedicated party, to a dedicated audience, rather than being stuffed into an "oldschool" compo alongside accelerated Amigas and fantasy consoles, in between photo and finger painting compos. :) But can't please everyone, I guess.
