Prince of Persia for C64: 60+ levels & random levels generator

For PC version of Prince of Persia, there are so many custom fan made levels and they are integrated into total pack package, Prince of Persia 1 - Total Pack, made by me( http://popuw.com/totalpack.html ). Total pack also includes random levels generator for Prince of Persia 1.

About one month ago, thanks to Mr.SID, Prince of Persia now can be played on C64 emulation or real hardware. After playing this masterpiece on VICE, I have decided to make PC-to-C64 levels converter and random levels generator for C64 version of Prince of Persia.

Here are some screenshots of the development version. Following levels are not original version of PoP. They are PC-to-C64 converted levels.
- 4D Prince (Kirill A. Terebilov, 1994)
- Jaffar's Revenge (Crazy Diamond, 2006)
- PoP1 Remix 2 (AuraDragon, 2007)

Beta version would be released on CSDb soon.

what about uploading at CSDb the FINAL version only, after the betatest finishes? Of course a project like this won't be finished at v1.0 and there will be more versions later, but betas are betas for a reason: not completely tested and finished. Who wants to check the beta, can download it at your site anyway.

You are absolutely right. Beta versions would not be released on CSDb. Thank you for advising.

Thank you for being interested in the development.

Here is some test play #1 for PC-to-C64 level conversion.

(Fan made custom levels: Steven Fayers Level 10)

Basically the converted gameplay works fine but some tuning and bug-fixing are needed.

* NOTE
All download links of the alpha versions in the dev pages have been removed since the previous versions have some problem.

I will post several preview screenshots and youtube movies before releasing official 1.0 version.

** PREVIEW #1 **
The title name of this software has been changed to 'Prince of Persia 1 - Total Pack for Commodore 64' aka 'PoP1:TotalPack-C64'.

One feature which would be included to total pack is 'automatic level mirroring'. It means 'automatic horizontal level flipping'. Please see the following youtube movie and screenshots.

Why did it remove the gate?

The gate above the level is hidden by a wall block and it is also an useless thing which is never opened. Another gate looks like disapeared. I will check it out again for finding some kind of glitches.

Looks like it forgot to use a flipped version of the gate-tile. Placing the non-flipped tile at the correct position.

There is no flipped version of the gate-tile in the C64 version of 'Prince of Persia' as well as PC version. The gameplay could be a little bit changed in mirrored levels but it would not be the problem. I will check it out again. Thank you.

By using this program, the legendary custom level, '4D Prince' and other great custom levelsets could be run on Commodore 64. Since C64 version is based on Apple II version, some minor issues for compatibility are being fixed.

*** Development Preview ***
Here are some screenshots of Random Tournament Mod(Random Level Generator). Pre-defined level templates are randomly assembled and tweaked for constructing the full level set.

The modified EasyFlash .crt files will be automatically generated from the original .crt files released by Mr. SID( Prince of Persia 1.1 ) or Nostalgia( Prince of Persia +9 ).

By the way, the level data format including DOOR TRIGGERING EVENTS of 'Prince of Persia' is somewhat complicated so I have decided to make some kind of user-friendly front-end or launcher program. This program would be run on Windows. Also I have discussed with Mr. SID on his Dev Blog for the conversion algorithm one month ago.

The user interface of 'Prince of Persia - Total Pack for Commodore 64' is shown as following screenshot. Modified cartridge files(*.crt) which have custom levels could be easily generated by using this interface. Currently random level generator(aka random tournament mod) for Commodore 64 version of PoP is being developed and tested.
