Ikari+Talent Intro remake compo? Anyone?

After i saw the Intro from Dr.J (Ikari remake 1989 intro) i said to myself, this isn't a real remake, different logo etc.

And when i read the comments to the release, i'm not alone, so why not making a Ikari + Talent intro remake competition?

Everyone who wants to be a part of the compo can make his own version out of this original I+T Intro (Ikari & Talent Intro)...

Anyone interested? Or is this a stupid idea?

Depending on the time you give to make the intro, I'd have to admit, there are a few intros that had great potential, at least in my coders eye.

If this did happen:
1st screen has to be a text screen with original intro info.

Would memory size have to be the same as the original intro?
Original intro music should be used, unless original intro was used multiple times, with multiple musics.

It sounds fun though :D

The rulez were fucking easy...

Make a remake of the original Intro, no memory Limits, use the old or make new gfx, use the same or other music, do what you want....

I don't get it.

- What is the point of an intro remake?
- What is an intro remake?
- To make an intro that has words Ikari+Talent somewhere?
- To make an intro that has swinging logo and some scrolls?
- Why would anyone do just another logo+scroll after it's been done thousands of times already?
- How does this advance anything?
- What is the challenge?

On the other hand people seem to compose same song all over again while convincing themselves that they're doing something new. This is so absurd that though I don't get it, I am looking forward to seeing what this will be.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks so, but I always considered doing logos or intros for groups long gone or even just using their names... a little... erh... impious? necrophiliac?

Trying to imitate effects is educational fun, though, even more fun if you don't just disassemble it or look into the monitor but first try to figure out an own way of doing the same effect.

Bottom line: Imho, competitors should imitate the style and maybe some motives/themes/ideas, use any .SID they like including the original intro's music - but use at least own gfx/own group logos/content if this is supposed to be fun. I was thinking about what REM did with DD/FLT/Ikari intros. Those clearly reminded you of the old stuff and were always big fun watching imho.

@Mixer: Now it's getting philosphical. Of course there's much truth in your words about absurdities. On the other hand, it's absurd (but kewl) that there are still people fucking around with C64 at all in 2015 :)

as mixer suggested, whats absurd at this point is that they keep repeating themselves with more of the same instead of trying to push the limits.

if you want to remake something i+t did - try cracking a game with a real protection.

groepaz is right. where is the point to recode an intro several times? its kind of boring for the coder and the viewers...

and at this point i would like to invite you all to take part of the crack competition:
