measuring 6581 filter by ear
i have recently written a small basic program to "benchmark" the sidchip by ear ( SID Audit ). so i have tried this on my chips and it seems the "filter upper level" (UF) value seems very representative for the filter behaviour. this would be a handy tool to measure compo machines on remote or get info on a sid one wants to buy without much effort. i was a bit inspired by alankilas filter measurements, but this is much more primitive and instant.
i've "benchmarked" all my sids and recorded some oldschool tunes for reference here: https://soundcloud.com/zerozillion/sid6581-filter-comparison (the R4AR 5286 with values UF 1736/1760 sounds best to me, but thats sure point of view). i also plan to benchmark the sids in vice - can it be that filter distortion is not emulated anymore, i cannot see it in the menus? |

filter distortion is implicitly connected to the 6581. also i wont bother measuring resid-fp - it will eventually go soon anyway. |

thanks for the info; are the resid-fp models in vice the same like in sidplay, just without owner description? the Trurl6581R4AR_3789 in sidplay comes pretty close to my r4ar, would be interesting to cross check. |
