Where did your cracks come from in the past?
Refering to the latest posts here by Oswald and Jailbird:
Fairlight Intro (the Legendary one)
From which crackers/groups did the most cracks come from you got in the past?
I remember most of the games I copied from schoolmates had Ikari or Hotline intros in front. Also some Triad wares came along. The rest was very mixed. |

The original guy who had the disks I own had the majority of cracks based in the north of England, including Teesside Cracking Service, Cleveland Cracking Service and Scouse Cracking Group (Liverpool), and Megasnail/NATO who lived in Newcastle. Of course, many Ikari releases were included since they were the big heroes back then ;)... followed by all the foreign stuff, Germany being the biggest. |

also depends on where you lived & whom you knew
As everybody we got much stuff from world famous legendary groups in the late 80s such as Triad, Dynamic Duo, ESI (<- remarkably THE(!) only U.S. group everyone in Germany knew probably because every European group wanted to be the first to link their own "imported by" intro in front of their high quality cracks - and sometimes fucked up the crack altogether by doing so IIRC), HTL, Beastie Boys, FLT, Papillions, Yeti, Radwar, GCS, Shining 8, Light Circle, F4CG & whatnot.
But in Kiel/GER we got much stuff from local groups(I remember WEB) or guys (I remember Dr Mabuse before his AFL time) but also from Scandinavia from groups who were famous - at least on German East coast back then - but are not very often spoken of today, since they aren't active for decades such as Danish Gold, Agile/Sweden & many I don't remember myself. |

Talking about local groups, in 1987 or something I got plenty of stuff from Yeti-Factories and also by Knights Against Protection, both from Munich. There must be more KAP stuff than the few that is in the database. Hope these things pop up one day. |

@rough: although the mere size of this db is astonishing, it's even more astonishing that probably at least twice as many or more releases are still missing (just my personal guess). Reminds me that there a still a few disk coffins to transfer in my shelf... |

This sounds familiar to me... (whistling...)
ps. I don't think coffin is the proper word unless your disks are already demagnitified... |

well... though I don't think they are... who knows if you never take the time to tranfer'em ;)
Just kidding, indeed I find it kinda amusing that what we used to be told in school and mags, the whole "magnetic data storage won't be any good for more than 10 years" was proven sooo wrong. If you only take properly stored 30 years old magnetic media into account, maybe one of 50 disks and even less tapes are partially corrupted, while I can dump a great deal of optical storage media such as CDRs/DVDs etc which are only half as old.

well here in the southeast of bavaria/germany pretty obscure stuff went around. i guess you can quite safely say we were pretty much at the end of the spreading line ^^
can remember stuff from esi, ikari, some fusion, some strike force, some f4cg, some 711, some wanderer. not that i could say there is a clear tendency of 1-2-3 groups.
a schoolpal from the next town had quite some other stuff/groups as his brother' best pal seemed to have connections to wanderer.
i guess we - in the end - got what got spread around big time. :) |
