My biggest hunt is Damien Otis (Doctor O) who I hope is still alive... dont want to get into the rumors...

I sent the Green Griffin (I think a griffon's a dog) money by postal order once so he would buy me a 2400 baud modem and send that to me.
The price difference between Europe and the States was gigantic.
I used to call him from time to time, asking him if the money arrived.
He always said it didn't and I started harboring profound suspicions about him "dicking me over" so to speak.
So I called him even more often, every couple of days, ever more impatient and determined to undermine his peace of mind in case of treason on his behalf.
After 7 or 8 months, the postal service returned my money.
I still feel sorry now and then about suspecting this great scener of dishonesty.

hehe... yeah, out here everyone thought he was a d*ck...
he was at war with Eclipse (the scener). In fact they got into blows once. He looked like your typical surfer stereotype I recall.
Those 2 guys hated each other, and Eclipse is my boy so I took on his side.
Goldfish? hmm.. i recall that name from europe.. but its so hard to remember. I also saw a Gene of Illusion on here too, and that name rings a bell. I do remember Bod of Talent, as I talked to him alot towards the end of the scene. Other euros, Plastic in Germany and The Blasters of Spain. Its so hard to remember, it easier to see the names instead. I think Green Grifffon mentioned something about ripping someone off of their money for a modem or something.... Wow, funny how alot of this comes back. |

Morrissey,
Good try to stir up ancient doubts.
But given your declared allegiance, I'll stick to my own recollection of a happy ending.
So I guess it's time to dig up the old telephone books to check on people of old, bring'em out here.
The only # I still believe to know by heath is the one to Second to None

Hobbit and Guardian have been around a bit on the internet. But majority of the rest I haven't seen around.
Alchemist (Kyle) isn't the same person Hector is looking for.

Hehe, you still remember Second To None´s number right man. I also have collected all dial ups from our other hq´s so far. Unfortunately I cannot find the entry screens I had stored once anymore...

Hmmm, I just dialed the # but it's no longer in service.
Got to look up the voice # of TDO and see if that's still active.
Good thing about parents'places & #'s: they don't change so often over time.
Proof of that: look up the oldest of Legend cracks and the # mentioned in the intro still is one of my parents #.
Stability of one's roots: a bare necessity.

However, if you need the numbers from TDO & Horizon, I´ve got the valid once....

not him particularly, but when the handles of people come up. The names ring a bell. I knew so many many people in the scene, from the most elite to above average lamers. I recall I had a list of handles & phone #s on a long sheet, kinda like Santa's list for Christmas. And as soon as an old handle comes up, I recall the name and having their #... but it drives me nuts to try and remember more info.
I mean I had this list for over 5 years, so it kinda sticks into your mind.
I recall the Second To None BBS too...
anyone recall The Warez Hotel (FBR)?
It was located in South Central L.A., the sysop was a member or affiliated with a local street gang. Very cool dude though, his house was raided by FBI though... this was around 1987-1988. I remember talking to him afterwards and him being pissed off, he said, "man, they even took my f'ing joysticks! What the F do they want with my F'ing joysticks!?"
that was the end of the infamous 'Warez Hotel'... |

Jeez, I'll bet I still have my list (on notebook paper) of all the BBS' I called and all the sceners I spoke to. I was never much for starting conference calls but somehow I always ended up on them.
I should go digging around my boxes for that stuff.
I know I have a paper-copy of 'Illegal' that had an article on my BBS in it.

Would be nice to have all cracks done by NEC, TSM, ATC, Mirage, NFI etc. without import intro and pal fixes |

Wow, all those handles, this was such a long time ago!
I guess I could try and track down Massive (he's a chinese guy, iirc) if he's still in Mtl it's gotta be do'able.
Lost track of TLD completly, he was pissed I'd added a bounce to his scroll in this intro he'd made and we never spoke again.
Also lost track of Sequencer but I think I have some music (.MOD) he's made for some competition somewhere. I'm sure he's done lots of music for console games by now (he was studying classical music last time we talked - that guy can really compose!)
Are you sure RasterBlaster's name is Dung? Hope not, school musta been hell for that guy!
I'll see about Massive anyway (gotta find The Dreamer first, he's gotta know where MR's gone...)

Hey Morr... Man, it's been a while!
Glad to see you're doing ok... still enjoy watching pics from you on c64 (and demos from Lords!)
The last dragon, I'm not sure but I think Tristan might have some news about him... but like everyone... Ppl come and go for a while.
I don't have much news from reverb though but I recall talking about him to sequencer a year ago (haven't heard from Sequencer in a while unfortunatly)
I haven't looked at your post before, I will keep my eyes opened.

Thanks again guys for the memories...

The Last Dragon (TIM).... well I havent heard from him since my days of Empire. I tracked Sequencer (Neil Voss) down back in 2001. He was running a media company in New York. Actually him and Martial Artist and Lupin of many old Canadian demo and crack crews started a console company back in 1995. They did the game Tetrisphere in N64. Sequencer did some amazing tunes for that game. There is a code in that game that will play some of his sid tunes on N64.
I still remember all those old guys. I talked to Kickback about a year ago. Me and him were in Fantasy. actually I still remember running conferences with you and all the old Lords, Venom, Shade, and Havok guys. I will have to jog my memory to help you some more MORR. Nice seeing you alive again.
Btw, I can remember talking to you one time and you asked if I had alot of trees in Virginia. You were freaked out cuz you lived in LA and had a few twigs in the crack of the sidewalk. LOL.
Tristan/ROT/Napalm/Fantasy/Empire/Scs-Trc/ many more cant remember.

WOw, now that is funny... believe it or not, I recall that. It was so urban where I lived that I always dreamed of living in a place with trees, and not concrete sidewalks. That was 15 years ago though, now I own a home about 30 miles east of L.A. and I have trees! hahaha...
Your handle I do recall. Man, it is great that a website like this is around. You know some old 64 scener will one day do a search on google for old times memory and stumble here. I guess that's how we all find each other. Although our memory is slowly degrading, theres just certain things you dont forget, for whatever reason man.
Take care, and keep checking in when ya get a chance every so often. Its a trip... |

I believe I would classify as one of the "older" geezers. ;) I talk to JJ from time to time, although it's been awhile. Got together with him for dinner a few years ago. He was working in San Diego, I believe. Something computer related but I can't remember. Mitch is a stereo salesman in New York (think Fred-Rated from the old Federated commercials). Player=1= hasn't been heard from by anybody that I know in years. I live by where he grew up now, so I've always wanted to track him down. Unfortunately, I don't remember his last name and there's a crap load of "Mike" in the San Jose phone book. ;) |

I would like to hear from Guardian (his last name was Wu if I remember right). We had worked on a few Venom projects. He was very underrated in his coding skills. I had e-mailed him many years ago through an e-mail I found somewhere...no response, unfortunately.
Another guy I would like to hear from is Necromancer from the demo group Shade (circa 1990). I remember he was a bit older, but a very nice guy..his graphics skills were very underrrated.
I also wonder what Revenger is doing, what about everyones favorite The Barber (wes)? I hope Eclipse is doing something amazing, he was a bright star, extremely talented, very humble.
It's funny, these were my only friends when I was 13...people I never met in person- just long late night telephone conversations and working together on creative projects. When I dropped computers, these friends went by the wayside. But I always think of them from time to time, wondering what the hell they are up to.
Does anyone remember Megabyte/Necropheliac (Shan Mason) of Venom? I would like to talk with him, but I fear he's wallowing in some personal hell somewhere. Hopefully he stumbles on this site.
Hello Morr! Hope the painting is going well.
Hello Tristan! You probably don't remember me, but I remember we had a "war" on a board once (my only scene fight, so I remember well) Whenever I hear/read the name "Tristan Tzara" the famous Dada-ist, I always think of the commodore 64. ha. |

Hey guys,
Great to you people and Morrissey your list does bring back memories. I was one of the demoscene Euros calling out back then, and I remember talking to lot of cool colleagues from the states. EU / US was very divided then, was a shame .. Hard to believe how different "the world" was before internet.
Damien (Doctor O) was one of my closest contacts overseas back then, i remember talking for hours and hours with him (and his gf/wife i think?). Morrissey, sounds like you found him?! Where, when, how? Do tell??

I mentioned your name to him and he says he does clearly remember you and all. Told me to tell you 'whats up man'.
Well, I dont know if I can give out the locale of where he's at, but hes about 50 miles or so from me. Went over to visit him for a small bbq party with a few friends... hung out and talked about old times.
We did take the time to look at alot of our demos, and he hooked me up with all the c64 emu stuff i needed. Man it brought back memories. Also we took a look at the new PC stuff man (demos), and shit, we've certainly missed the bus! but it was fun, and now we are in contact often. A Shame it took almost 15 years to find him though...
Take care all, I'll keep poking my head in once in a while!

Hey Morr... I remember your alias as well.. I'm not sure if we were ever friends.. but i certainly remember FBR.. FBR was again another one of the real deals along with exodus (XDS).. not these crapy knockoffs you read about today... my 2 closest FBR friends were candyman (david.. WOW HE DIED?!?!?) and Oahawhool..
alot of the ppl and the scene is somewhat cloudy.. man i've done alot since then..
I did hear from Gene/ILS and we were always tight.. Shout out kid!
Also I see OEP floating around.. HAHA george! oh man we had fun rippin on bod all those late nights.. drop me an email so we can catchup a little.. The Addiction!
Without a doubt, we were a part of the c64 boom.. I'm reading some of this new stuff around here.. and man.. they're all clueless.. we had it all.. unlimited 0 day warez.. unlimited #s for our euro friends.. unlimited fiber optic codes for crystal clear calling overseas (this was great for importing at 300-1200 BPS LOL)... unlimited voice mail accounts.. unlimited trw reports/cc#s.. unlimited teleconferencing.. etc etc.. it was a once in a lifetime experience without a doubt.. man some of the things we used to do.. just insane..
i cant even begin to remember how many games i released with the help of the exodus crew.. monster classic games too.. outrun, ghouls n ghosts, etc etc.. and these were the REAL 0 day versions.. not the ripped version you may see today... they all now have hacked up intros that were ripped from our original releases...
i've noticed grim reaper running around here.. (whats up dave!).. i saw you posted some stuff about exodus here.. last thing i remember was dropping out and you basically taking my spot.. later i vaguely remember stan calling me saying something along the lines of xds was shutting down.. it was all over.. me and you used to spend alot of time on the phone too.. i remember you were originally in some other group and made you way into xds after awhile.. i remember being happy about it too because i had always liked you...
anyways as i said, we were all part of it when it was real.. naturally when we died, the c64 was on its way out anyways.. virtually obsolete.. as technology naturally goes.. games were no longer being released.. and things headed toward the amiga.. and now we all eventually ended up here on windows.. hahaha
feel free to write or stay in touch with me... i have over 30 e-commerce websites with over 30 products.. also on the side, i specialize in website design and search engine optimization... i'm still living in NY and have a newly built (2004) 2200 sq ft lake front home on lake ontario.. im still single (hahaha!) and own a brand new hummer h2, corvette, jetskis, etc etc etc... my companies are very successful and i'm still working my ass off everyday... you can reach me at schlafer.com
i would really like to shout out to the ppl i remember most (if any of you ever read this).. this is in no ranking and pls drop me a note if you do stumble upon this...

Yo Hector! Great to see you and the other dudes around. I'm up in Montreal now as Head of Games & Apps at a mobile company. You're right - I was in Europe for some years, but returned to the States work on some console projects. I'll be returning to the California sun in June.
I remember one of our first in-person meetings at one of the Duck Meets. All of the dudes were there - Eclipse, Raster Blaster, TGG, Blackhawk, Alchemist, etc. We were watching the FIG Contest Demo in awe.. I also remember the Venom girls on the VMB (: Still funny to this day. |

Damn, if we could get some of the old US sceners in here. Shit, I'm 39 years old, have a 5 year old son. I own a few companies in Portland, Oregon. Unix Systems Engineering, Unix System Administrators, and PDX Managed Data Solutions. They're all under the umbrella of a single corporation but I do work for myself. Most of my work these days is architecting high end high data throughput hardware solutions based on Sun Microsystems hardware (I built Symantecs Globalization site, built Filenets labs, and installed the Systems Security Infrastructure (HP Openview and that whole suite of products, OVO etc) at the NASA installation at Moffett Field, CA. I still do a shit load of programming too. Mostly PHP front facing interfaces to backend MySQL databases.
It's so ironic; all of us guys who did nothing but hack Unix and pirate games, have become successful (ok, semi successful) system engineers, security consultants, software engineers, etc etc.
See mom, those days and nights and weeks, and months, and years and decades on the c64 DID pay off. :)
Oh well, I need to get severely stoned, drink some coffee, and probably take a nap. But who knows. My love of programming still keeps me up for days at a time. I've got to go finish converting a php4 based site to php5. Fucking a major rewrite. mysql_connect() + mysql_select_db() vs mysqli_connect() and all that other crap; why didn't they make php5 backwards compatible? Fuckers. It would probably take less time to recode the entire 600 lines.
Oh well, I'm going off on a rant again...
I'm outta here.

Grim Reaper - Hey Dave - We Were the Best

Skreemer - I've forgotten more about Unix than you will ever learn! :) Hey
Asterix - You, you were a lamer. I think you just wanted to war with me because I warred with the best.
Flyboy - Hey
These are just the names I see here. I spoke the Elric/FBR (short lived FBR member I brought into the group back in the day. Grim Reaper and I still talk. The Shadow kept calling me last year wanting to start a C64 group. What a loser. Stan/WareWolf/XDS, Dropped off the map. Goldfish, god, we spend a lot of time on the phone. Hmmm, who else can I think of that I don't see. Jimmy'Z, the sysop of the best c64 board ever. Raster Blaster and Mandrake, where the hell are you guys? Horizon and Pudwerx, another couple of homies. Master Kracker, where the fuck is John? The Shark, no comment, though we talk every 10 years or so. The Green Griiffon, you're lucky I even mention you. Booze, you were too talented for your company, but then, I did become good friends with Empire members, even though I castrated them on the boards (had to keep appearances up :)). Hmm, who else, Tom/Beastie Boys, why did you steal my trainer code and give yourself credit? Excel/Ikari, god you were lame. Weetibix, not too many older than you. Strider/Fairlight, you goddamn AT&T whore. Leaving us for INC was lame. The Pimp/USA, better forgotten. Billy the Kid/The Alliance; you made me elite. Oahawhool, heeeeeyyyy duuuuude; we made FBR great, round 2, many many many thanks to Infernal, Microman, Ninja, Invincible Importer, and Death Demon.
Oh crap, this has brought me back. I have just started an article for Recollections in a text editor in another window. Jazzcat, you will get it soon, and it will be chock full of information, plus some of the information you want. I have been reminiscing for the past couple of hours, and my hands just started to write a long article.
Maybe I'll even finally finish the article for Andreas Walstrom tonight or tomorrow.
Okay, I'm off, I've got shit to write, and some FBR history to correct.

I do remember The Bit Bandit on Apple ][, but it wasn't me. I actually took my handle from an old old old (83, 84) USA crack group called The Bandit Brothers. I liked the initials and modified it slightly. I didn't have a brother or a could enough friend with the same interests and it would have been kinda lame to call myself the The Bandit Brothers.

Hey Joel, do you still do any Unix stuff? I became a Unix Systems Engineer when I grew up and own a couple of companies here in Portland, Oregon. Mainly maintenance contracts, but I just picked up a programming gig to write some custom software for a childare center (Unix OS, Apache, Perl, Mysql, the usual suspects).
I still have all my 'hacking' skills but of course they all translate into money now as it's my primary field of work.
What about you man, what are you up to.
You me and Skreemer spent a lot of time on the phone back in the day. What kind of shit are you into these days?

Flyboy, they really still have BBS? LOL thats funny to me... I dunno whatever right?
Ron- I'm in the industry of course.. Ya i code in like over 43987483 langauges lol.. I know Unix.. Etc... I have over 100 .com's and I'm inventing and selling products via mail order, internet, etc... I have quite a few very popular products that you may see on TV... Andy, get a grip, and take a joke.
I was asked to translate some games in Farsi (Persian/Iranian) to English but just don't have the the time, or really the interest. I have gotten Vice and all the tools I need to start coding on the 64 again though and I've started coding a little demo just for fun. I've tried calling you but your number is dead again. Don't be so sensitive like a little manic depressive girl. I win!
Remember, everyone is a loser to me, so grow up. (Damn, I can still rag!)
Joel, yeah, I'm in the industry as well. I design and build large storage systems (Hitachi enterprise class arrays) and of course engineer Unix solutions. I own a couple of companies here in Portland and the stuff I learned in the old days translated right to me life as a grown up. I still do a lot of programming but mostly it's in all three tiers of the standard 3 tiered web architecture. I do all the MySQL, PHP/Perl, as well as Apache stuff. Standard issue stuff. Where are you living these days?

Ron I'm still living in NY... Born and raised.. I gotta really sick house on Lake Ontario.. It's nice in the warm seasons for boating, jetskiing, etc.. Alot of what I'm doing to is MySQL, PHP/Perl, Apache stuff, etc too.. I've built all my own sites (As well as others for clients, partners, affiliates, etc.).. This consists of like site design, shopping carts, affiliate programs, search engine optimization, etc...
Shadow- Sorry man I'm burnt, my bad.. I don't really recall you.. Juggle my memory, what was the 'Tim Wheeler' shit all about? That does seem farmiliar for some odd reason?? LOL

Joel, Tim Wheeler is the name you used for crank calling, mostly on conference calls. You probably did not even know me by my handle since we always used first names on the phone. When we last spoke, we were talking about purple hair and orange hair. Not that the subjects can be a reminder but you and I talked long after your days in The Scene. |

It was a huge network Rob (Skreemer) hacked and turned me onto. I thought you were in on it as well. Intergraph is the company that makes a piece of CAD software called Microstation. Big government contracter. Of course this was over 20 years ago, well beyond the statute of limitations (and before formal computer law, heh) necessary for prosecution.

Yeah, Rob and I logged a lot of phone hours, and you were on a lot of those calls as well. You probably forgot, but we had a conference once where we called the Secret Service and dared them to trace us. Of course they couldn't because we went through so many diverters and extenders and god knows what else.
I only mentioned Intergraph because it was a big find and I thought you were the one that 'secured' it.
Doesn't matter. Me too, I'm 40, that shit is truly ancient history.
