Allan Shortt R.I.P
Allan Shortt who was a Commodore 64 programmer and did games for Ocean and for Konami was died yesterday .
he was responsible for coding titles like:
Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh , Athena , Boot Camp ,
Combat School , Mario Bros , Yie Ar Kung Fu II .
i quote a message written by Gary Bracey in FB :
" Today all his ex workmates from Ocean, and the places he worked after, will remember Allan and spare a thought for Allan's family and friends. Rest in Peace Allan Shortt. "Although I hadn't spoken to Al for a number of years, we did stay in touch via email and I'd like to think we remained friends beyond the Ocean years. This comes as a terrible - and painful - shock. I will remember him as a gruff, no-nonsense guy with an intimidating exterior but a good, loyal heart within. He loved his job and was passionate about his work. One-of-a-kind, I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his family and everyone else whose life he touched. I am privileged to be counted among the latter. RIP, mate."
and i sadly add : RIP Allen

One of the nicest, most gentle people I knew at work. It was always nice to see him there when we both happened to go for a break at the same time. Last week was the last time it seems :(
We sometimes talked about c-64 and I could swear I could see his eyes light up a bit when we talked about IRQs and NMIs :)
'Back to the Fun Factory', is what he used to say when going back to work. Until this day I don't know if he meant it or not. I'm sure he missed the 'good old days' quite a bit and didn't like the new fancy consoles that much.
So sudden and too soon. Let's hope there's lots of c64's wherever he is now. |

Absolutely sad news. He did a fantastic Commodore 64 conversion of Arkanoid - Revenge of Doh. The game play was just right, and I remember having hours of pure game play of this when I was a teen :)
