German Spreading Service, Inc.   (GSS)

Founded by :
TOP, Dennis & Data Burglar in 1984

Dissolved in :
1988

Group Types :
Cracker Group, Fixing Group

Base Country :
Germany

Trivia :
Founded by three friends in Baden-Baden, Germany, who had initially very little contact to the outside scene.
Back in those days Top would perplex people in the local Horten shopping center's computer department by reading hex-dumps in computer magazines and commenting on the quality of the code ("Look, he forgot to disable the interrupts before changing the interrupt vector"). Fixing an out-of-memory problem with Ariolasoft's Kaiser by compacting the basic code earned him the undying gratitude of the department manager. The group's probably best crack/fix ever was Top's breaking the Gunship protection, which included code sent to the floppy that would autodestruct on a timer. The plan was to port the game over to an FLOAD format, which involved compacting Gunship's basic parts since a FLOAD formatted disc's capacity was less than that of Gunship's own format.
