Even after watching some of the other stuff of Mermaid, this one remains my favourite.

and again one of those pictures that look like a part of a nice computer game.

Magnificent. Yet again, Mermaid proves to be a "Jane of all trades" by doing a picture in a pixelstyle and setting that is quite different to the stuff she did before! ;-)

Yes, this one rocks. Nice mushrooms too.

Although leon's pic is also very good, I like this one more. why? because leon's pic is interlaced, while this is plain multicolour... and I just like vanja's style a lot :_)

Quoting Bordeaux
The choice of the brown filling besides the left eye of the left skull-on-the-stick seems wrong as if the skull is transparent to the stick. And ditto question for the brown and purple on the right skull which doesn’t even seem to be part of the stick. As if +/- 3 chars are a bit out of place.
I was wondering if all the detail there made it necessary as technical format concession or was it a choice to blend it all in together?

In general, I like mixing odd colours in here and there, a bad habit I share with Boris Vallejo. ;) I often do that when I do non-digital work too.

About the brown bits on the skull, old blood turns brown, old bones also tend to turn yellow/brown. Finally, brown is slightly darker than dark gray, another reason for using brown in that area of the skull.

Purple is darker than gray and brighter than dark gray/brown, so you could simply view it as part of the gradient dithering, or as a piece of purple cloth or feathers attached to the skullstick. Or a smudge of purpe blood? This is a fantasy picture after all, blood doesn't have to be red.

Then again, it could be that I had no plan behind any of it and that I'm just desperately making all this up now in an attempt to hide some of the flaws in the picture.

This looks even better on the real machine. The light green really pops. It reminds me of two of my other favorite graphicians... oys because of the sparkle style and ptoing because of the yus-like head. The heavy mixture of color is inspiring. Great work, Vanja!

Thank you all! Just got back online after 2 days (useless isp..), I've uploaded a zipped .d64 image with some workstages, for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing.

Very nice! Unfortunately I missed seeing the graphics on the party (as did a few others due to smoking in the freezing cold outside and not knowing the compo started), would have love to seen this on the big screen!

Out of pure curiosity though, a detail question:

Very nice - combines both a great artistic composition with some superb technique! Amazes me to see how the limits of the mc-mode are overcome and produce such a result.

I just wrote on the comments for Oys' entry that I think he should've won the compo, then looked at this a little longer and started to change my mind :) I like the colours and the attention to detail.
