Well, it is a valid "thing" as in effort, but imho, the layout is terrible. Page raster loosely strays around, images are cropped at the edge(s) and except for font usage, there is no real line of style to it. This actually makes it pretty unpleasant to read. Hint: take a sophisticated magazine publication and measure things a bit. No more than 3 fonts per page (sizes count) and the path to legitness is paved. | User Comment Submitted by Scan on 8 September 2017
I've read it, and I've got a few remarks:
- Remove the personal vendetta stuff out of the editorial, it's unprofessional.
- 5 pages with code, in total 10 pages talking a bit more in depth about coding, that's 1/5th of the magazine, for a coders digest magazine this is meager
- "I was too lazy to remember how to display a Koala picture, so I looked online and found a small routine by Richard Bayliss." - This does not give me confidence in your coding qualities, let alone the drive to (re)learn stuff yourself. How do you expect your readers to do otherwise?
- Specify what assembler the included pieces of code require, not everyone can immediately see by syntax which one it requires
- I still have the feeling - as with issue zero - you have troubles defining your target audience:
beginners would like to see more COMMENTED code, and for most of the people here the things in this issue are trivial.
- Order of placement of articles, you first display code that is called by IRQ, but the article explaining
what interrupts are is located almost at the end of magazine (without showing how to set up an IRQ, again, what's your target audience?)
- Surplus of C64 advertisements. The ones for the recently released stuff, fine, but the old ads from decades ago feels a bit like filler-up material. This combined with the lack of will to write your own trivial Koala display routine gives me the feeling that this magazine will be short-lived.
- Now on to the good stuff: it's free. | User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 8 September 2017
the multipart zip is valid, if you don't have an archiver that supports multipart zips you can always manually merge them, for example
copy /b INC-D020-Issue-One.z01 +INC-D020-Issue-One.z02 + INC-D020-Issue-One.zip incd020.zip
(z0x first, zip as last)
For the "liking it" part, it's a mistery to me aswell. | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Mouse on 8 September 2017
