It is a great pic, shows your well-known style, colours, etc... Keep up the good work!

I can see that there is put some effort into the picture. I like the background because of the grass, the green versus brown, and the tree works well. Im not fond of the floyd-steinberg type of dithering because it only works in some kinds of compositions, if that's the right terminology to use here. Imho, the dithering shines too much through in the foreground. I come from PC-scene and Im not a fulltime graphic artist, but mostly a coder. Keep up the good work.

Quoting JSL
When I never get better, most of you say: Quit, and leave us alone

No, no one wants you to quit. What most of us actually say is to try to improve your skillset, which is stagnating on the same exact level since 1993, even after around a thousand releases you have participated in. Sorry, but a new below-mediocre release every other day becomes tedious and spammy after a while, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this. I can't use the "Random" feature on the site any more without constantly running into your graphics. CSDb seems to me like your personal gallery sometimes.

I've told you many times before that your ideas are decent, but for some reason you simply don't want to spend enough time on them. A good release needs time - days or weeks, not hours. You steadily overlook this, and put out less than half-baked stuff on a site which rests on charts and rivalry.

And for all those who constantly assure JSL about his greatness and talent, all you do is make him even more delusional and confused about his work. Like it or not, the scene is still a heavily competitive place, and people will be often cruel or brutal. This is not a magical la la land with rainbows, unicorns and shiny happy people all around. It's probably easier to help an individual to advance, than make half of the scene think differently just for the sake of it. Encouraging JSL's flimsy abilities instead of trying to boost his artistry will just leave things as-is.

It has nothing to do with being elite or not, if i'd put 6/7 hours into a pic i had nothing more to show than a elaborated draft as well. But while you'd release it, i'd let it settle and show it maybe to a selection of most grumpy men that would always complain, to notice that they spot the same quirks that bother me on my own work. There are a few points where you sometimes can escape with valid excuses, like color restrictions, but that's about it. Of course modern tools make things easy, most of all however as you can use a mouse with them, this would also work for Amicapaint.
I'm not any better, but more critical, also to my own. It applies to all kind of disciplines, even to coding. A working prototype could most of the times be done easily, but a good effect idea is so wasted if i release the first working version without any optimisations done. Only that hard and iterative process will help finding even better concepts to achieve the same effect and make it so fast (or tiny) that it starts to be wow.
You see, i am not better, but maybe more ambitious (there's sure no lack of time, what you should be lucky for, as it is the showstopper for so many sceners), there's just subjects where i can push things for every additional effort i make, and others where i suck from the first pixel on, like logos. Giving up is not an option, nor on the first version that satisfies yourself nor on the scene. To try again, and fail better however is an option :-)

When I put more time in pixeling than on the Drama? Who started the Drama? Usually noone replies with downvotes, and why opening a thread, I bet each piece of gfx in the end gives a thread. And then again, when my pixelart is retarded, if u guys saw my 600 unreleased pictures and 2/3screeners, then surely YOU ALL would say, drop the shit, and come with something good. Because the last years everything I bring out, is bad, in everyone's eyes. Lack of detail, remember that the not so skilled graphicans, get better votes, and nicer comments, than me. It seems that the so called "Elite" expects from me that my comparision would be something like the BEST ones in the Scene, like Leon/Mermaid/Joe etc.etc. and JSL may not stick on the same level as the JSL years back. There is just no appreciation, for Art. I know that many of you now shout, Art? Art, where you see Art JSL? But, the thread is for that, alltough this is all pointless, making fun out of my graphics - to become better than Joe - and we're the Elite, listen to us and you improve - The fact is, you graphicians stated to pixel 1 month on a graphic, while I bring out a Doublescreener in 6-7 hours means I have no skills to make something like Nexus' his last picture (Angels amongst us) even what my scene friends do say in Email, will I pixel another 10-12 hours more on it, it deserves the same level of downvotes and bad comments. And, I spoke years back about going FLI, never realised, many use a Pc tool, but Funpaint and FliGraph had bugs, and I kept doing Koala, on a real C64. When I never get better, most of you say: Quit, and leave us alone..

If JSL would just put the same amount of time into his pictures than on the drama... You regularly fire out pictures that i would not consider anything more than a draft. Especially this lacks so much a level of detail, what makes it obvious it is done in a rush. And then you expect praise or even progress?

First intention was to upload From HELL as doublescreener but thoughts where to much drama on horror graphics in comic style, second thought was Ninja stuff, because C64 became proud with Last Ninja 1-3, then again Moloch will delete this last comment, and some stated earlier "JSL stop spamming other people's releases with your comments, and keep it to your own releases" anyway, now it seems I cannot give comments anymore on my own release here, but at the point of a moderator, end this massacre is an option, untill more drama comes to the next graphical release from me. Next thing would be, no more comments on my releases, what then, BAN JSL for releasing retard graphics? ;)

JSL: I'm the last one to say anything, My pixels don't come close to yours.
Look at me. My code sucks. I know it sucks and likely, everybody else knows this too. But I keep on with it. My pixel work isn't the best either, but it has improved greatly since I started in 1988. My pixeling improved more than my coding, but I still keep on with both. If you think that's bad, wait until my first music is released. I both look forward to it, and I don't. The reality is, are YOU happy with your work?
Quitting isn't the answer though. You're a GREAT artist, and that should be enough. The only thing I can say is to take your time, check your pixels and know, FEEL, that piece is ready for release.
Don't let TALK keep you from enjoying something you obviously love to do. Don't allow your buttons to be pushed either and never show self-pity, especially on here.

omfg it MUST be allowed to comment freely. The quote "If you can't say anything good, shut up" might be OK in charm school but we're not in Kindergarten here. I guess, at least constructive criticism should be APPRECIATED by authors. BTW Mark Twain is supposed to have said "Any publicity is good publicity", so... at least the attention is there :) And if you refuse reacting on criticism, you shouldn't freak out if comments get less constructive or even ironic/saracastic. As I said before, complaining won't do, esp since JSL complained even more about anonymous downvotes with no comments at all... *shrug*

signed: a moderate critical opinion guy who basically likes JSL but not everything he produces (as can be read in former comments).

How about calming down now and not cultivating drama till it gets even worse?

Well, at least you get some attention for your work JSL! But honestly.. After speaking with a few elites in my time, there's one resounding statement that they spend 30+hours on most work to perfect it. If you spend 2 hours on a quick sketch and touch up jobs you will be flamed, I really like your characters, And logos for me are the best, but if you do quick cartoons like a daily newspaper, most people won't be that bothered as will see another the next day. Maybe take a few weeks on one picture and criticize your work yourself and never be happy with it. That is the secret to most masters works.
Keep rockin though, it would be sad without you.

If I express my honest opinion here, I may have blood on my hands as a result, woooh. Still, I think JSL likes being the sensitive artist and blame others for his misfortune, which is just a big word for getting a bad review. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, life goes on.

I agree with PAL, JOE and others. This thrashing is totally uncalled for. So this may not be your cup of tea. Get over it. JSL obviously enjoys (or at least did) making graphics, so we should encourage instead of put down.

If you don't have anything nice to say, then SHUT THE FUCK UP.

I think JSL technique has been improving over the years on a steady curve, in particular the dithering technique. Perhaps he needs to work on scale and proportions, but we all have areas of improvement, eh?

JSL - keep up the good work, practice makes perfect.......

TheRyk etc.: Often you guys wrote about stop overreacting on comments and votes, and keep pixeling, because that I do like, but I cannot help it to get pissed. When you do a Petscii demo for Arsenic, you wouldn't be pissed sceners dragging the release down? Looking at the given comments, realism is a true fact you guys want, even proportions is a thing, where Exile/Anubis often spoke about when we met at Party's.. Level of frustration went up with pixeling, while usually before I was a pusher, for continues work on a graphic, and pixeling became less lately.. Oh, you're the first seeing the wire job on the Ninja face. Would get more downvotes, none likes wirejobs from me. Oh, and for BCC, I will drop you something. ;)

JSL: Your comment makes me sad and I feel very uncomfortable in being
viewed upon as someone which would be excluding multitude and pluralism.
I don’t consider myself to be part of any elite. I’m simply pleased by doing images,
which occasionally might make others react or inspire them to act.

I do agree that the discussions and critique can be on the edge of what
anyone should have to put up with and I’m ashamed myself to read what
is going on at times. I’m also ashamed at times for my own behavior and dislikes.
I can understand you feeling put off. But I honestly don’t think that anyone
disliking any of your work, would be about you as a person or your activities.

You have to filter out and forget yourself for a moment and review what
there could be to be learned from the situation or critique (which varies).
Your images are a result of you, yes. But they are not the inner you or
your body parts. It’s difficult to understand for the mind, especially in
emotional situations but it’s something which everyone has to painfully
learn and live with for the rest of our lives regardless occupation really.

With all respect, please do keep up the work! Not for anyone else or getting likes,
simply just because you enjoy it!

JSL: what celtic says. Don't quit but please quit whining about/threatening with rage quitting, it's embarrassing, because haters won't care anyway and friends are irritated but grow tired of persuading you to please stay. Finally grow some balls, you're here long enough to know how the land lies here at CSDb.

Picture: Though some statements might seem a little harsh/over the top, there's much truth in them. Especially because you have done a dozen ninja pictures before, I'd have expected more. Ananatomy is crude to say the least, esp of small ninja. Big face looks like poor wire job.

And now go pixel something you are an epxert for, comic outlines, cute animals with fancy colored rivers and lovely sky/horizon background and mail it to me, I'm still waiting for your remote entry ;)

What kind of negative feedback are you talking about?? I am the most devoted fan of yours, bro! I also have all your graphics framed and hung on my walls, and the chicks I bring up to my apartment get wet immediately as they see Ecco the Dolphin or Captain America. I've got laid quite a few times thanks to them.

frankly after submitting this harsh review, I immediately thought that the scene would be much less without you. I remember bitching about too much hungarian magazines.. now not a single one... which is worse.. Constant flow of your gfx is a nice thing in itself. You're part of this big family, where we can grump happily about your pictures. At the end of the day they have their charm, and they add a lot of color to the big picture, and the hope will never die that you're getting better at it.

Thanks for the Negative feedback, the last three. Some weeks back, I thought of Deleting my account, and Delete all my Groups I am involved in, and send them the message I will Quit. Against all CSDb rules ofcourse, but it is what you guys make of it, since heaps of years. I think CSDb is a place for the Elite only, Jail-ass-bird, Leon, Mirage, Joe, etc. And not such retard as me, right? :(

Wow! Amazing graphics! One of the best images on C64, if not the best. Way beyond the level of Electric, Mirage or Archmage, we could only dream about such nonpareil talent.
