I believe the timing on the last screen with the flexible char positioning was rather tight, I think the small scroll below is the only thing that time allowed to put on the screen - might be why I did not add those sprites...
The chop observed in the movement is a trigger from the text scroll that should start another movement of in the flex field.
Also I might add that the 3 circles below the big scroll in the first demo (Have to wait some time for them all to show) is also done using pixels - and the circels and movement of the pixes are mathematically derived - most just did movement with a joystick and recorded the positions for re-use.

I made this demo and the code for the flexible char positioning... so I have to say yes, it was a new thing... most text movement was either side to side or up/down, this was not seen before - unfortunately I did not put sprites on top of it to prove I did it without...
