JCH Editor was my tool of choice back then in 1990. But today I think 320x200 is too little for my taste. Still the best editor for me on the C64, but as graphician and coders use crossplatform tools, so I think musicians ought to level up too. Thats why I decided to give CheeseCutter 2.5.0 a run and after being away from the scene for almost 23 years, it only took me 3 hours to get familiar with this new editor as it feels like JCH editor, but runs on any modern platform.
I know, the SID emulation will never beat the real deal. But I think the grand overview, the loads of new features and the openess this new editor brings gives me the best of both. Eg. JCH editor setup for tracks/sequences going vertical as I am used to. The wave-, pulse- and filtertables. Same logical way as I was used to.
So thumbs up for seeing the good work on the old JCH editor. Good to see that the best editor around on C64 still is getting updates, but - I think I will stay on modern hardware as the coders and the graphicians already does. |

Yes, you will need the JCH-packer for this. More user-friendly is of course relative. However, I think Frantic's docs to the JCH-system is an excellent guide to newcomers or musicians who would like to try out a different setting. Finally, without lapsing into the neverending discussion about different music players, let's just say that there are a lot of things that my players (and others) can manage that aren't possible in Voicetracker.

What is everyone so excited about? The gfx are even worse than what I expected from the screenshots... :(
Hehe, j/k. As a non-musician I simply take this as a little musicdisk with an awkward menu. Great stuff, I will always be amazed at that "round and round" tune! |
